7 in 10 Americans think Marijuana Should Be Legal

In a recent poll of 1,237 American adults nationwide carried out from April 8th to 12th, almost 7 in 10 (69%) think that the use of marijuana should be legal in the US 25 percent were opposed.

While this isn’t the first poll to show a majority of support for legalization on a federal level, it is still significant. Not only is it proof of the growing acceptance of cannabis, but it shows that this now has more support than ever before. With such backing, it’s time that elected officials took note and started to better implement the wishes of those they represent.

Question you have to ask is, what is wrong with almost 25% of the population! I think what is interesting to compare with the positive public perception of cannabis legalization is still arrests seem to be increasing, with a small decrease from 2009. Wonder why the police are still focusing on marijuana arrests.

That is all great news. It really is about time. It is the medicine that works for me and has made a huge difference in my quality of life. It would be all Unicorns and rainbows if it was just embraced by society but at this point I am starting not to give a flying fuck if it is legal or not. But that’s just me.

I agree with you there. Just sad to see older activists/growers/breeders lose out to big business on the evolution of cannabis. I posted an article about Dana Beal earlier, and sad to see he has no pension, where to for a great man like him who brought hundreds of thousands of people together around the world to highlight the importance of cannabis legalisation. But it is amazing to hear people who use cannabis now and never would have before improve the quality of their lives.

I really hope this comes off like I want it to. Its my opinion and I’m not trying to sound like a weenis.

@chrisj I think it is because of the corporate gold rush that things will only get worse until there is no more quick profits to be made and competitors to crush and that will take years. MONEY makes the rules and writes the laws and drops the hammer on you if you step out of line. People are still incarcerated and getting arrested or harassed for Marijuana all over the country and I don’t see a whole lot of movement to fix that. It might shit the money bed for them to move too quickly on that. There is no need to rock the boat as all the rules and regulations are well designed and in place. Stand in line at the dispensary, pay more than 25 bucks a gram for mids, and be grateful… Nope. Every day that passes I become a little more cynical about the intentions of these people that I don’t see as acting in the best interest of the community.
I really hope that there are breeders and growers at the corporate level that are acting more like compassionate stewards of a valuable resource that should be available and freely shared by all without fear of incarceration, harassment, or being faced with an expense that many people can’t even contemplate.

A adult individual should be able to grow cannabis in USA. The most fair market ? A market where Local growers have the product tested and sell to buyers wholesale, retail . Plenty of cabbage in cannabis for corporations and individuals. But the game is run by politicians, big money.
The government says I can pay them $100, pay a doctor $150 yearly. Then i can shop at a dispensary and pay $475 for a ounce of herbs ! :money_mouth_face: The cultivation facility is owned by a family of millionaires, the dispensary by a group of lawyers. :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:
I can grow a better product at a tiny fraction of the cost and supply myself for a year.

I think this is where “kasinomics” comes into it.

Kasinomics : African informal economies and the people who inhabit them.

Let big business test, pay tax, charge ridonkeylous prices and let a free/farmer market also work its magic. Just like the big business who bottles tomatoes, and the farmer that sells fresh organic ones on a sunday at the local market. I think its as easy as that, afterall cannabis is a herb, and we all have the right to grow it.

I love to go to dispensary and people watch. Every body is in a good mood waiting in line. old ,young, black ,white, latino. You can always start a conversation with someone. Many of the vehicles have 4 or 5 happy people sitting and smiling. I wonder how much of this tight government control of cannabis works. Do yall think medicine is shared ?

@chrisj That would be great but it is a long ways away I think. Right now it is all about maintaining control and ensuring that the money flow remains high and uninterrupted. Gonna be a while before they get tired of getting paid.

Since joining this community I swore an oath after my first harvest that I will never spend another dime at a dispensary. I have decided to dedicate the rest of my life to this plant and I do so proudly and unreservedly. In the near future I will be actively looking for seeds from smaller craft growers and looking to help others test out strains for stability and traits they are selecting for. I am on THIS path until I die and that is that. When the living situation here changes in the next year or so I am heading out to search for a place to farm in my own little way or help somebody that feels likewise do the same.

A couple of years ago, I had my door kicked in due to cannabis. Their only reason was that an angry now ex girlfriend told them I was a a grower and dealer. 2 small plants, zero evidence that I sold anything because I never have. Destroyed my home, belongings, my sons shit, over 2 plants. The case was completely thrown out a few weeks later after a few days in jail, and 10 grand bail.

@dunbar I don’t know what the cops were expecting to find at the time but this is yet another example of people paying a very high price in every way imaginable for something that is being sold legally all over the country. Just like the “Belters” in the show “The Expanse” really if you think about it. I am pretty sure no matter what we do/think/believe we will always be behind and fighting over scraps like vultures just to get what we need while people cue at the dispensary for…whatever. I am so fucking sorry that happened to you, man. I really really am.

I appreciate that!
At the time I was growing illegally, but only for my own personal use. Was a new small business owner and let’s be honest, It gets expensive to purchase when you’re a “heavy user”. I have numerous friends in law enforcement, my sons step father is a lieutenant in the next county over. Every one of them said something smelled fishy, and recommended I seak out some sort of legal action. Lawyer told me that if I filed anything, even a complaint that they would re-charge me strictly out of spite! I now grow legal of course, but uncomfortably.

You’ve nailed that one thats how my state is sadly. It’s pretty disgusting for them to charge top dollar for garbage hermied buds that they label “Reserve” or “Premium”. Ontop of the renewal fees for med cards.
