@jarrodmason what is your favorite scene from E4?

Hey @jarrodmason! Thanks for hosting a killer episode of Canna Cribs!

I know the majority of your product goes to extraction. What would Los Suenos look like if extraction wasn’t an option? I’m asking because AZ just dabbled with the idea of making extracts illegal. Luckily, we saved ourselves from a bad decision.

Hi @jarrodmason

I have only had the chance to watch the first half of the episode so far, and so far I am extremely impressed with your operation out there at Los SueƱos. I’m really excited to finish watching the episode and learn more about your farm.

This might be answered on a part of the episode I haven’t seen yet, but have you always been interested in cannabis and being part of the industry? Or what was it that got you started in the Cannabis space?

The most important factors are always temperature and humidity. We also have the capability to monitor light penetration inside and outside of our greenhouse’s which is an awesome tool for energy efficiency, along with some cool abilities to monitor vapor pressures etc.

Link 4 has a great system for both monitoring and analyzing the data we collect, check them out here (http://link4controls.com).

Hey Jarrod! Thanks for hosting this AMA! Your farm is amazing!:thumbsupparrot:

I love your background and research in this quote. I can relate because I come from a behavioral health background where I mentored high risk youth who suffered from most of the diagnosis you named in this above quote.

Did you partner with the Institute of Cannabis Research to create CBD extractions or provide strands that focus on reducing the symptoms of these diagnosis?

Hope that’s not a weird question.:slightly_smiling_face:

Thanks,

Outside of compliance requirements, are you tracking harvest yields or cost/weight to produce? I saw the impressive Link4 equipment from the episode, but how do determine if the business is producing efficiently or if the nutrient plan is working better than the previous harvest?

I’m curious about the higher-level view of the business that goes beyond the cliche of seed-to-sale tech, and looking more at the Seed to CRM view with your operating costs and revenue outlets in mind.

Hi @jarrodmason,

I am loving this episode, your farm looks amazing! That certainly is a lot of plants to take care, I noticed that you have incorporated the use of drones to help monitor the health of the plants.

Do you foresee increasing the use of drones or integrating more tools such as automated robots to help manage the work load in the future?

What would you say is the biggest benefit to these tools?

Thanks,

Hey @Alvaro, thanks for watching the episode and also reaching out my friend.

I did not always want to be in the cannabis industry, in fact, I actually initially wanted to be a doctor. However, in my first few years of schooling I witnessed a family member get pulled into a heroin addiction from prescription drugs and that sent me down a path to understand not only how drugs affect the body, but how we can get away from harmful drugs that western society puts into our hands and into more natural alternatives.

So I switched my major to psychology/neuroscience abruptly and began my quest into understanding the brain & pharmacology.

While working on some other research projects for Autism & ADHD, I started seeing a lot of signs point to cannabis and began putting together some literature reviews on my own to understand the research out there. Not to long after that, I was invited to join a new neuroscience lab the university had created to begin studying cannabis. In 2016 we published our first study on using cannabis to extinguish the fear response in PTSD, leading to PTSD becoming a qualifying condition for medical cannabis in Colorado, along with the local and state government deciding to go ahead and fund research into what has now become the Institute of Cannabis Research.

In 2016 I graduated college and decided to head into the private sector to begin spreading the knowledge I had gained on cannabis. Los SueƱos Farms gave me a ground floor opportunity and I put my head down and went to work. I have been extremely fortunate to have some great mentors along the way and I couldn’t be happier with where my journey has lead me.

TLDR: Curiosity and research lead me here. Now my goal is to nerd out to get the word out.

Awesome to hear about your research into autism, ADHD. I am a grower in nor cal for @ 12 years now , 45 yrs old. Diagnosed with ADD at 25. Plants are my life. I have a nice little operation running a nursery for hemp farmers. Producing 20-100,000 cuts for hemp farms in so-cal area . Correlation to farmers i know with ADD is huge. Also, trauma plays an interesting part. Plants seem to attract those with hyper-sensetive natures. Or at least i have realized the ones who are very good at their craft are more inclined to have brain issue for whatever reason.

I think you are absolutely right about ADHD and autism, @kanapefarms! Thanks for sharing that insight. I also have ADHD. I was diagnosed at age 7 and heavily medicated on gnarly stimulant meds until I was 21. I discovered not only the medicinal potential of cannabis itself, but growing plants as therapy. I find the both to be the only medicine I need these days. And it beats the hell out of the meds (ie speed) that I was on for all those years.

As for trauma, between playing football and crashing dirt bikes and falling off cliffs, I have suffered more than my fair share of head trauma! I think you have drawn an interesting correlation between cannabis and TBI…

Keep on truckin’ i say. Us ADD kids sticking together sharing with others, including the super techy-ADD kids like us, assuming you are as well, will solve a ton of problems. Looking forward to this Grower’s forum. I am a believer in sharing knowledge. Always a student, love to learn. Lots to share! Cheers.

Hey Brendan,

Wonderful questions and glad you picked up on that part.

I can absolutely see us utilizing drones more in the future. We are just now beginning to use these tools and the applications are almost endless. Just from a simple fly-over, you can easily spot differences among strains, soil conditions, environmental conditions, pest problems etc. So as we begin to understand what variables we can control and work with, we will begin to implement the drones into a regular program to monitor our crops.

I think the biggest benefit is the fact that we can quickly evaluate our crops from a macro view. With such a large canopy footprint it can be hard for growers to notice patterns in the crops from the ground. So integrating the drones in, we can quickly see those patterns and quickly make changes to correct those if its a lack of watering, lack of nutrients, pest problems etc. For instance, in 2016, we realized from a drone photo that we had a high amount of salt accumulation in one particular portion of our farm, so now we make sure to only plant strains that are known for growing in high salinity.

Thanks

are you guys open to trying new materials ? We can formulate any bulk carbon material at the best cost . Our current products research we have showing the overall value in RKAG materials and we can do 55 gallon or 275 totes to make it even more cost effective .
