California October Dataset is now Available

Combined sales in California’s medical dispensaries and delivery services were $245 million in October 2017, less than one percent larger than in September. Between March 2017 when reporting began and October, nearly $1.9 billion in retail activity has been recorded in California dispensaries.

Sales in the Northern half of the state declined four percent from September and were $98 million. In the Southern half of the state sales grew three percent to $147 million.

Half of all sales came from flower/bud. This key category experienced a seasonal decline of three percent from September and achieved $123 million in sales.

Sales of concentrates grew four percent from September reaching $69 million in October, a third of all sales for the month. Vape products continue to drive the market – vape accounted for 67 percent of all concentrate sales in October.
Edible sales were nearly $31 million in October, a modest one percent increase from September. Sales of candy, the largest subcategory within edibles grew six percent, whereas chocolates and tinctures, the next largest subcategories remained flat from the previous month. Candy tends to sell at a lower price point and growth from candy lead to a four percent overall decline in the average retail selling price for edibles from September.
