GNET: Help with this Study

Hey @memberdirectory, I want to introduce you to Dr. Rebekah O’Rourke. I have spoke with her and she’s amazing and she needs our help! Dr. O’Rourke is conducting one of the most comprehensive studies on cannabis and medical professionals ever attempted. I will kindly introduce @Rebekah and let her explain the parameters of her research and how we might be able to help.

Feel free to reach out to @Rebekah to lend a hand.

Thanks GNET!

Thanks for the introduction @Growernick

Hi all, thank you for the welcome to this fabulous network. I am an Australian, based in Portugal and my work in group dynamics is global. I am currently undertaking PhD research and I am seeking a conversation with people interested in investing in the study below. Please be in touch and I can set up a call to discuss.

Research TItle
Multiple social identities and group norms: The impact on the recommendation of Cannabis to patients by healthcare groups

The overall aim of this project is to gain an understanding of the impact of the dynamics through group norms on behavior related to recommending Cannabis to patients by healthcare groups. The question being asked is: Why do healthcare workers such as Doctors, Specialists and Pharmacists offer Cannabis to patients or not? Formally or informally?

This project is unique as there is very little research available that provides insights into what influences/drives medical practitioners collectively.

The plan is to run a multiple country study across Europe, USA (multiple states) and Australia. Setting up focus groups that explore how the group norms of healthcare groups that result in various social identities and how these influence behaviors related to recommending Cannabis.

One of the envisioned outcomes of this research will be strategies to work with healthcare practitioners based on primary market research.

Ah, got it.

Are the focus groups virtual?

May I suggest you include Canada in your study? While we have an independent and completely different medical system than the States, our doctors are still greatly, if not exclusively influenced by USA methodologies, practices and moral compass.
I think you would find the comparative data between the two countries fascinating.
I know personally, I’ve never been prescribed Cannabis by my family doctor regardless of multiple request because of this, even though she’s open about her personal belief about being procannabis.

Hi Bryan, thanks for your suggestion. I agree the comparison would be fascinating between the USA and Canada. I am certainly open to Canada, it will depend if I have enough funding to cover the locations. On a personal note. I just got back from Ontario! Thanks, Rebekah

Hi Steve, this study will have the study groups done face to face across the various locations. This will allow for languages and videoing of the groups for analysis. A smaller study done later on will be interviews virtually. Happy to discuss!
