Hello Growmies,
I have a photo og kush it was supposed to be an auto seed but is very much a photo. As I’ve only grown autos before and never had a chance to clone i decided to try to give it a shot. I air layered one of the lower branches put some rooting hormone on the exposed area and wrapped it with plastic. My question is how do i know when it is good to take off and clone it? Can i take the plastic off to check? I feel like i should probably not touch it until it’s ready. I also had one branch get knocked off while i was taking her out of the tent so i am trying to clone that one as well. Any useful insight is appreciated as always.

This is very cool. I haven’t seen it done with anything but trees before. Trees are depending on species. Some take up to 6-8 weeks , some 12 weeks and some up to 2 years. Im not sure how long this will take. The typical ways of rooting a clone should be anywhere from a handful of days to 2 weeks. Depending on skill level.

When the roots form you will see them, no problem. I did a write up on air cloning using the little air cloning pods off Amazon. However, you made an error, it may work anyway but you should always use a node, those two small limbs coming out just above your plastic wrap, you should have carefully cut off the little shoots, then very carefully with a clean razor cut small little slits in the branch just about a quarter of the way through the branch, on two sided opposite each other. Then paint it with rooting hormone, and if you have powdered, sprinkle some on the sphagnum moss.
Here is a pic of the ones I did with the Amazon pods.

Well I did this myself, and it was the first time doing it. It was an experiment, one honestly I knew would work, because pot is a plant that will form roots if you bury the stem. Just like tomatoes.
So I can tell you exactly what I did. I took some Sphagnum moss The loose fluffy stuff, not pro mix or coco coir. You can buy Sphagnum moss off Amazon in little bags, enough to do many many clones. And that is not necessary, just what I did.
You can most likely use just plain coco coir, just a light medium to put in the pods. then make a bunch of notches in the stem about 1/4 of the way through the limb. two or three above and below the node, and on each side of the stem opposite one another. Then fill the air pod with the Sphagnum moss and sprinkle some dry powder rooting hormone on the damp moss, and paint the stem and get it in all the notches and the node, then just snap the pod shut over the stem.
Make sure you keep the pod moist that is what that little cup on the one end is for. They have little tabs that flip over the other half to keep them closed and you can use them more than once. I used a razor knife for notching the limbs.
