I’ve been thinking about something lately and figured this would be the best place to ask real folks who understand the plant better than anyone.
With how many states have legalized recreational cannabis now, I’m wondering—is there still a real benefit to having a Medical Marijuana Card?
I used to think it was a no-brainer: lower costs, access to stronger products, less hassle with limits, etc. But with things changing so fast, I’ve heard people say it’s not really worth renewing anymore.
I’d love to know what you all think:
Do you still use your MMJ card, or did you let it go?
Are the savings or growth limits still worth the renewal fees where you live?
Anything new or surprising you’ve run into recently with MMJ vs. recreational access?
For me, I’m in it mostly for wellness reasons—managing chronic stress and sleep issues. But I’m also curious if keeping a card still gives growers any advantages.
Would love to hear your experience. I know every state handles it differently, but your stories help people like me make better decisions.
I’ve kept my MMJ card even though rec is legal here. For me the difference shows up in two places: prices and product variety. Dispensaries near me charge way more tax on rec sales, and over a few months that’s enough to cover the renewal fee. The medical side also lets me buy stronger tinctures and larger amounts at once, which is better since I mostly use it for sleep and stress.
Renewal was smoother than expected. I went through Leafy Doc online, set up a call, and had the paperwork sorted in under a week. I barely think about it now, just flash the card, get my discount, and move on.
Welcome back and good to have your important input. It seems policies are working through regulation of cannabis, similar to whats happening in Canada. I see why its becoming easier to access medical grade, higher potency cannabis at cheaper prices. Do you have a reason to have an MMJ card?
No - sure when they 1st came out but now that many states are “legal” Once you have a card some states revoke your drivers licence + if looking for a job your card could influence you getting the job these are 2 of many reasons
