Help, lol. I need some expertise. I have some beautiful autos I’ve been growing for 2 months at 18/6 my jack herers are 3 ft tall, they will not flower. I was reading I need to 12/12, what’s the point with autos then? Is this the case.
Give them a little more time… I have had a jack go into 70-75 days…that gets me flowering in June…2 months ahead of my outdoor…My opinion… you can force a photo indoor but outdoor I can get 3 crops in… I am not an auto grower anymore but am going to throw 2 in and grow outdoor… also I am pretty sure I might have a Jack or 2 grow…also I feel if a plant senses your impatient, they mess with you stress you the hell out…lol…
Thanks, I’m not big on the autos either, For the past ten years I’ve used only one seed bank and I decided to try a different one this time and I’m not happy at all with the outcome. Shitty germination rate, germination is my specialty so I thought. Lol
Well autos can suck and to some of us not worth the effort you put in vs the product you get out. And the price per seed stinks too IMO but thats just an opinion and you know precisely what they are worth. I am almost decided on running a special 12/12 from seed grow journal to demonstrate you can get most of the important features of autos with normal plants that cost far less. Thats slated to begin in about 45 days and will be combined with a plant sexing experiment…
That was what I was wanting to do, a little experimenting. At the minimum I will have almost 5 months in this crop of autos. Do to the fact there not flowering. Crazy I used crop king seeds this time and I’m not very satisfied. I guess I’m a picky fucker lol
My last batch of critical thunder and grandad purple autos was only ten weeks from seed to harvest but it was from a different seed bank
…lol… Crop king seeds suck… I never use them anymore…
I don’t know where you buy your seeds from, I personally go cheap, I pay under $5.00 for 3 seeds, I love auto’s as much as photo’s, I treat auto’s just like photos
I couldn’t post the whole bill, if it was legal where I am I would have
I stay far away from big seed banks.
Well @piper, since most places that sell auto seeds sell them at high cost (10 bucks a throw or better) and all of us do not have access to cheap autos as you do, they are effectively more expensive than they are worth for all of us when they cost as much or more as a photo and produces a fraction of the harvest. I have not seen the slight time-savings or the ability to avoid light discipline as worth it for me at least. Maybe I am too spoilt by the yield of the photo plant vs the auto; if thats true the auto will never catch up in my book. Then when you add to it the problems of propagating autos, it makes them doubly not-worth it. Sure I have heard of folks doing it but have heard of far more than can’t and in this regard, if propagation is important to you, autos are always the harder road to travel.
So if autos are your thing and you feel like you are getting your moneys worth out of them, who gives a crap what someone else thinks; we all gotta do whats right for us, there is no One True Way, only things that work for me and things that do not. Me, they are a waste of money and resources in my current situation…for me, the best auto I ever had did not produce as much as pretty much any average photo plant I have grown but I still had to sink 70-some days into them and thats the part that never added up; given a proper indica from a clone, Autos are simply not faster or if they are it is only incrementally so, yet the yield of the indica plant will far out-strip the auto by several orders of magnitude every time. Maybe every auto I have purchased over the years has simply been unlucky. Perhaps I have some freak strain of indicas…or maybe if we side-step all the freak and miraculous probabilities, perhaps autos are simply not worth it for production grows. Now autos are perfect for novelty things like aquaponics and such…I am more meat and potatoes…
Autos don’t suck… It’s type of seed that is manipulated to flower on its own… I’ve been smoking and around grows for 19 years and they are very very new to the market and talented growers have started to perfect their methods just as photo growers have done… If you get the science down autos are capable of great things especially indoor
I think a person could do great things with autos also, with a little practice. Lol that’s why I wanted to give them a try. It will be a learning process.
Them are nice autos, thats how I want mine to turn out lol
@scotty17 I have never heard the concept of “a strain that has been bred to ignore photocycle” as a seed having been manipulated…sounds like someone took a normal seed, did something heinous, evil or maybe even sexual to it and it became deviant…and like I said I am great if others find them fantastic or that they make the best meds they ever had, its all good. I love my stuff. They love their stuff. If we didn’t love our stuff, we wouldn’t grow our stuff. As a buddy in the Army used to say, its just that damned simple.
One thing that no autoflower can ever get past is lack of yield due to a stunted vegging period. Normal plants will simply always veg more plant. The few full-time growers that I know (sadly few) will only grow autos when their regular med needs are already met because while autos can turn out spectacular, they have an equal chance of being wimps, what would be called “failure to thrive” in normal plants.
Alas I am enough of a pragmatist to know what while in my head the strikes seem to be against autos, to the grower who absolutely has to use them because of …shall we say…“local restrictions due to lack of foresight in our elected leaders”, the fact that autoflowers allows them to grow at all outweighs every other consideration and for those people I also state somewhat prophetically (very full of myself tonight I guess) that if you are in such conditions yet you are still growing, its better than even you think because of a goofy wrinkly in the way we as a country are approaching cannabis legality: As you are growing now and probably have been for some time, regardless of what you are growing you are gaining vital, useful and specialized experience that, because of that wrinkle, will make you one of the sought-after ones when legality does happen in your area…I see this happening in legal states right now, my own included: everyone sees money in the cannabis biz, everyone wants in on it, as you damned well know growing cannabis is not like growing pretty much anything else, particularly shit normal farmers etc grow, to do it right takes specialized know-how and being able to scale that knowledge up to high production values is something only experience can drill into your head. So all these companies want in, none of them have experience, and because of the powers that be federally, pot will at-most be legal in your state and not across state lines. As such your companies end up implementing stuff like others who came before them did, hiring all local growers and are forced to buy all local (state) content and for the first six months or so the motivated grower may have the local field all to themselves, horrible pun not intended…just gotta be ready because local, specialized, real-world hands-on experience will be worth money to the right companies.
Sorry, way out in left field there…

You remind me of someone who’s not here anymore, especially the way you say/word things, I can’t help but think you are this person
2 months or less and I get a half pound (wet) per plant and I am a rookie with auto’s, wait till I get to dial them in
Ruderalis has a great yield if you know how to grow it and have good genetics
To prove you wrong on “your” theory on low yields, I suggest you become a member at these forums and sprout what you just posted here.
If those 2 arent enough, I can direct you to some other forums and you will have many people like me that will not be as nice.
There are a lot of myths with auto’s, there are 4 forums that bust those myths.
Lets get out of this “god mode” that your in, it’s your opinion, thats fine, but it means nothing to me and others, I have great yields and pictures to prove it, not just on this forum, but every forum you can think of (cannabis forums).
I love photo’s, I love auto’s, I love weed
I can’t read most of your stuff, maybe when you learn about paragraphs I might read
@boobsy thank you, don’t give up
@scotty17 auto’s are natural, been around a very very long time, they were discovered in 1924, but have been around since the dawn of time, just like sativa and indica, they can and do reach 2-3 foot tall.
Just a different type of seed for a different way to grow. I personally like to be in charge of the veg to flower state. If a few fell behind the others in a batch, I like to let them catch up a little by keeping veg status longer and trimming or taking some clones from the faster ones. This would hopefully mean all the plants were at similar sizes and growth when switched to flower. Hopefully providing a more consistent yeild across plants while also prepping for another batch to flower shortly after harvest.
But everyone is different and do what works best for you.
I did have a few seeds I was not aware were autoflowrs and it completely threw me off in this last round. I was not mentally prepared to handle it also could not change nutrients to make it thrive better because it started flowering so early.
Each to their own.
Lol cool but think about it is a seed that’s been manipulated by nature yes ruderalis strains are key in creating a auto… And no @piper it’s me but maybe I just think differently than the rest… I am who I am guess my wording you guys don’t understand… I mean no I’ll will to anyone but I speak my mind
No disrespect I maybe din’t read/understand what you said, basically I fucked up
I always have autos going with my photo’s, it’s awesome, I top them, train them, sure, I prefer photos, I even like fems, I grew up without seedless cannabis, why fems and auto’s are an important part of my life, I remember the day seedless cannabis came, thats the day prices went up & up & up The Joint Doctor has come a long way with lowryder & lowryder2
Auoto’s are great if you fall behind with photos
Yeah like you said, whats best for you
Hey @boobsy, if you plants don’t flower soon flip your lights. I’ve known a few people that have gotten photo seeds when they were supposed to get autos or the other way around. Just something to think about.
Where did you get the duds if u don’t mind me asking?
