Avocado disease

Hi,

I hope this is the right category. I’ve had this Fuerte Avocado for 15+ years. The bark seems to have some issues. I’ve tried Neem Oil, Monterey Garden Phos , burning with small flames and Monterey LiquidCop with no luck. I check it daily and this white ‘fungus’ won’t go away. What might it be and how to cure it? (The white is paint I put to protect from the sun. The dark is where I scraped the bark to see ‘fungus’)

Thanks

Hey @dsmith question does the bark peel back easy where the fungus is?

I would like to help you with this and learn more about avocados I can eat em daily.
Let’s stop all the Neem Oil for now and find out what is going on.
I can check with a Microbiologist on that white fungus you’re referring to.
The paint is common have seen it on almond trees before at commercial farms to protect from the sun along with other benefits.
With this being a cannabis formun, we can move conversation if we can’t do so here.

Very curious about what’s going on with that tree. Definitely report back anything you find out @FarmerK. Thanks!

I dont see why you couldn’t help. Never seen a mod say you can’t here. That’s why I love it here. Helping hands.

@dsmith it looks like Phytophthora trunk canker. If it’s not to deep cut away all the effected tissue and treat with your normal fungicide. Keep the trunk dry as moisture is the main culprit. When pruning make sure you clean your tools and only prune during dry conditions. Good news is the canker is not deadly if taken care of. It may stunt the growth for a bit but not to bad.

After cleaning it up I would also cover it with a wound cover like
Tanglefoot Tree Wound Pruning Sealer & Grafting Compound, 16 oz. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B077XNP69Q/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabt1_HJsRFb36SP5WN?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Hope this helps some.

Thanks for the various replies and suggestions. I apparently was not careful enough to realize this is a cannabis forum. Will continue to monitor for any useful suggestions. Thanks dsmith

I have two trees I started this year. I started them out the same way you do beans in a paper towel. They are standing about 2 ft high. I will go get a couple pictures when the rain slows down a bit
