Let’s face it, it isn’t easy for a cannabis industry operator to properly vet a provider of accounting, tax, compliance or legal services when you don’t have a clear understanding of the rules in the first place. We hope that over the past couple of months, that we have freely shared what we know with this forum.
Well, the bar has just been raised, aBIZinaBOX Cannabis Practice Group has launched a micro-site for Best Practices in Accounting, Tax and Regulatory Compliance in the Cannabis Industry. Initially, the site is going to offer articles and webinars the cover topics that impact operators within the industry…for FREE.
If anyone isn’t aware, we are directly involved in the development of both best practices and regularly provide our input and comments to regulatory agencies involved in the oversight process.
I am the lead for the American Institute of Certified Public Accountant’s [“AICPA”] Cannabis Industry Task Force.
We are currently licensed at both the firm and individual CPA level in California, Florida, Illinois, New York and Texas.
We are > 30-year members of the AICPA and state CPA societies - CalCPA, FICPA, ICPAS, NYSSCPA, and TSCPA where we have been actively involved as members and leaders of technical, practice management, and in select instances leadership committees. All of this activity has been done on a voluntary basis as part of our efforts to support the profession.
We are actively engaged with the IRS, California FTB, California - Bureau of Cannabis Control “BCC”, Dept. of Food and Agriculture “CDFA” CalCannabis, Dept. of Public Health “CDPH” Manufactured Cannabis Safety Board “MCSB”, Dept. of Tax and Fee Administration “CDTFA”, Los Angeles County Office of Cannabis Management, City of Los Angeles Cannabis Control and the City of San Francisco Health Dept. in the processes where comment from the CPA profession and the cannabis industry have input in the development of regulations.
We serve as voluntary advisors to a number of industry trade associations and groups
Anyone can say something like “We are experts in applying IRC Sec. 280E”…you won’t EVER see us use the word expert in describing ourselves for numerous reasons.
However, if you have questions or concerns about any of these issues come to take a look at "Nose In the Book’ which is a project sponsored aBIZinaBOX Cannabis Practice Group as our contribution to the development of competence on these issues for the cannabis industry.
