I don’t know if you notice in the pics or not but the perlite is turning orange. Is this normal?
Nice save girl … What’s the perlite look like under natural light?
That are finally breathing and roots aren’t burrowing through hard soil… Moist is key till they get stronger
Should I shut the light off and check.
It wouldn’t hurt for a min to check for sure
We can tell you’re a great mom to your babies!
Great job so far… keep it up!
Nice recovery on the grape ape…
Thank you. It was full blown panic for almost 24 hours lol.
05/14/2020 photo shoot!
Cool, slowly getting there…
Just a little heads up for you dame @beths : I found out that, at this stage at least, you can manipulate the spacing between the nodes by raising or lowering your lights…
The closer you have your lights to the seedlings, the tighter the spacing will be… If you want them a bit taller with a bit of a stretch between nodes, just raise your lights a couple of inches and the seedlings will race up to get back into their confort zone…
That’s how I’m doing it for now, and unless a real grower tells me otherwise, that’s how I will continue to play with the height of my girls!
Keep it green lady and have a great day!
Do we want them tall? Is that the goal? What is the significance of tighter nodes? @kapouic
Here’s a bit of reading, just for fun ;
But the aim is getting the most branches you can to get the most colas. By controlling the spacing you can have longer space between where the branches meet the stalk (nodes). That way you have a bit less branching (less colas) but better airflow inside the “bushy” part of your plants. Shorter inter-nodes will give you more branching (eventually) and more colas!
It’s all a delicate balance in what you want to achieve with your plants and the space and ventilation available…
You really don’t have to do it, this is a semi-advanced technique (I think) that may give you a bit more harvest.
And, I must mention, this is things I found out by doing them, I did not do any research on it other than playing with my girls…
That is badass! Is that rig backed up to a west facing fence? The reason I ask is, I have a canopy of tall trees on the east boundary of my property and the sun doesn’t clear it until about 12:00 noon, and my west boundary is exposed to my neighbors and everyone else.
Great idea!
Hello, Chicagolander! We live in area 312 and well into a veg cycle right now. Almost 7 weeks in to a surprise, unknown OG seed I found in a bud—supposedly Rocket Fuel, but who knows. Then 4 weeks in to a pair of Cinderella 99s from a reliable provider, and germing a Super Silver Haze auto for the patio. The C99s are taller than the OG already, but OG is super bushy and thriving after two rounds of topping and LST. C99s are getting FIM’d today. Cheers!
Hi there neighbor. I am in Monee. About an hour south of the city. Can’t wait to get my Grape Ape outside but this weather is too friggin unpredictable. Post some pics. Would love to see!
C99s #2 and #1 at one day before three weeks old in FFOF soil. I haven’t even fed them apart from some root microbe juice and a little CalMag, which I’ve done once. They’re about 8" tall there.
The unknown OG, could be Rocket Fuel. It will be at seven weeks in four days. Same treatment as the C99s but I’ve topped and adjust the LST when necessary, and it’s received two less-than-half-strength base nutrient feedings, root microbes, a little CalMag and one dose of Advanced Nutrients’ B-52 supplement. Since it’s nice and stocky, not so tall, I’m going to let it veg longer to let the C99s catch up before transitioning all at the same time. They’re all roughly the same height even though a few weeks apart between the two strains. I started the LST by pulling the whole plant to about 45-degree angle and tied it down. I’m gradually training branches back to the edge. You can see how the branches have a little ways to go, but it sure is moving fast right now. Those sideways shoots will be upright by morning. If the all-at-once plan doesn’t look like it’s going to work, I might move it to a different setup or make it a mother to experiment with. It’s a mystery plant after all. Maybe it will help me create a new classic. Ha
I’m relatively new to this, too, but I’ve been growing food in pots most of my adult life. It’s basically the same thing at its core. My unsolicited advice for you would be to try not to fuss with all of it too much. Over-thinking and hovering all the time doesn’t really help and you can fall into the trap of going too far with something and encountering setbacks that could have been avoided.
Thank you so much for the advice. I do tend to over read and then over react
@Arbitrode your garden looks amazing. I can’t wait until my babies get that big. Please keep me posted. Did you create a journal? If not, feel free to update here. I love to watch the grows as they happen!!
