CannaCribs Consulting R&D Test Grow Ep.1 - VPS FlaVUH with Athena Nutrients

Howdy GN Growers!

Hope you’re all doing great and growing those trees! I’d like to present to you all a new series being uploaded to the CannaCribs Research & Development YouTube page!

RD Test Ep 1

Please follow the link above to our YouTube page to check it out! We’d really appreciate any likes, subscribes, comments and sharing of the video to help us build awareness for this new project.

We plan on using this thread to blog the progress and answer questions for the test we are doing with Athena Nutes and VPS FlaVUH. We just received preliminary data from a government licensed research facility in Canada that did a side-by-side trial using FlaVUH that showed an increase in yield by 12% over the control, along with increasing cannabinoid content. We should get that white paper within the next month and we’ll be sure to share it here.

This first Ep goes into how we are planning and building out this grow space and a couple of tips we wanted to share with you all during that process. We really wanted to focus on getting up and running as simply and cheaply as possible with water and power efficiency goals. We are growing in 2 separate tents for two set of tests and each tent will have anywhere from 8-12 plants per tent. We also have a Mother/Prop tent and an Autopot Pepper tent. Those vids are coming!

For the buildout, we chose Pex tubing for most of the plumbing and dropped in a simple RO system with a 55-Gal Drum. We chose 1000 and 1500 GPH pumps for our stock tanks and reservoirs, they should give us enough pressure at the emitters for consistent flow rates. This is a simple Calc you can use to calculate the head pressure coming from your pump to your irrigation lines. The drain to waste is going to utilize black vinyl tubing for flexibility and ease of cleaning.

We are running 2 - HLG 600W R-Spec Scorpions in our Flower Tents. We like the consistent coverage these provide, the added far reds and also their lower cost. For Veg, we have a HLG 300L B-Spec and 18W Clone LEDs. The flowering lights are being controlled by a Gavita EL2 Controller.

For air we have a mini split unit in the cultivation space but we are going to likely need to upgrade that as we get more tents up and running. For now we are just using push/pull in the tents with the ambient air and we are staying within our setpoints (for Veg, at least).
Let us know if you want a quick vid on how to calculate the actual and sensible loads for cooling in your grow space! If you want some in-depth reading check this out!

The genetics in this first test grow will start with a tried and true Blue Dream cut from an old Humbolt Seeds mom. A couple of us at the test grow run this cultivar pretty consistently and we have good data on how it should grow and its ideal conditions.
That doesn’t mean we won’t be trying to get the most out of our rooms! We plan on replicating this test with different cultivars and media to compare data and see if results are consistent over various methods and over time.

We’re also going to be doing a few seed/germination trials and pheno hunts in the future with some of our favorite breeders, stay tuned for that!

Let us know what you think of our first episode and please tell us about anything you would have done differently, suggestions on improvements, or want us to go over anything in more detail. Also let us know any ideas you have for future tests you’d like to see us run. This is the first Ep of many covering our full test cultivation cycles so we hope you all follow along and share it with anyone interested in growing with us!

Thanks!

-Mike

Great video @mike.c , and amazing that you doing this for us growers, drain to waste is the best thing we have done, all “waste” goes to our fresh veggies. Look forward to the next podcasts.
