We’re starting a grow down stairs and we ran into a small problem. Realized we don’t have enough amps coming from the fuse box. What are some ways we can resolve this problem? Super Appreciated!!!
Best bet call an electrician… A normal single story should pull 80-100 amps… But then again I’ve seen mickey mouse bullshit by hacks… I’m not an electrician but I know enough to get me by… Sooooo many variables tho bro… What are the lights pushing? Is the entire room running of the same circuit? Are power sources used by anything else? It comes down to using the availability you have or upgrades in my honest opinion
Try running heavy duty extension cords to different breakers
We have an 120amp fuse box, with 15amp individual fuses, one slot is blank, we want to add a fuse to that to run 2 1000 w hps lights. All of the other fuses are taken up by the house.
Install a double 20 fuse. It should hold it without burning down the house
Buy a icecube relay switch and run two flower Chambers off one ballast.half the amps and constant heat, half the ballasts needed. Great option. But I think u do best to run a double mini breaker to get your 240 it fits in the same space a normal breaker does.u can run 3 x 1000w hps & your fans (if you use a 3 wire) and split the circuit (need neutral to do it right so 3eire plus ground) but its worth it to do it right ,off the get go;)
They have breakers we call them piggy back breaker (120 volt)it’s two breakers in one they work nice I have a few in my garage. Run 12/2 wire it have some one do that for you if your not comfortable. I run all my hps 1000 watters on 240 volts pulls half the amps. Two 1000 watt hps at 240 volts draws 8.3 amps
You can replace some 120 volt breakers with piggy back breakers then that frees up your box spaces for a regular 240volt breaker only need 12/2 romex…my whole grow building almost is 12/2 except the 30 amp wire ran for light controllers which was 12/3 romex
Note: if not comfy with electric have a professional do it
reading this OP said fuse box. is he running a fuse box still or a breaker box? or is he old and calls it a fuse box no matter what, like i do sometimes. if its a fuse box he may really only be drawing 60 amps. old houses old wiring uggghhh.
True trisha. Some people do call breakers a fuse box. Not many cribs left with those but who knows. Code here on new houses have to be 200 amp.
we had to do 4 houses in the past just to get insurance on them
This thread is a year old Trish???
Both my homes and grow crib all three have 200 amp. Had a crib ones with those screw in breakers. I still have remnants of old knob and tube in my basement my house is 150 yes old
i saw that. what are the chances he has been sitting here waiting for an answer?
We figured that most people are slow doing things so therefore this retread
Hahahahha that’s funny trisha
my first house had a new breaker box. i think it had 3 circuits. there was a whole lot of attic climbing and fishing. back then i had less sense and less fear. the house was 1864 brick 2 story i bought for 29
My house was built in 1863 and plaster walls with the wire mesh underneath thats shit horrible to work with…Had hemp paneling to.
3 bricks deep 2 story
i took out a wall from a 50s house that had that mesh crap. i never wanted so bad to put that wall back after trying to take it down. that was not a good surprise
