Coco buffering solution

I just received my calcium nitrate and magnesium sulfate to make a cheap buffering solution for my blocks of coco. This is the recipe I’m going to use: Add 5 gallons of water to your bucket, followed the 0.14 oz (or 4 grams) of magnesium sulfate, and stir until dissolved. Now add the 0.5 oz (or 14 grams) of calcium nitrate and stir again. I saw one recipe that was 1:1 for both the cal and the mag. I also have a kilo of Iron Chelate - Kelatex. Should I add some to the solution?

On your Cal/Mag recipe the ratios look good to me…
You want to maintain a 3:1 to 4:1 ratio of Calcium to Magnesium.

I may suggest soaking and draining your coir to remove Sodium. It’s not usually a problem with high quality coir, but when you drain it capture some of the drainage water and check pH. You’re looking for a neutral pH and anything above 7.0 may indicate sodium…ESPECIALLY if it’s in the pH 8.5 range.
You have to soak it anyway, may just take the time to check before buffering.

I don’t think I would add a chelated micronutrient at all until I had a chance to see if your plants require it. Many of the nutrient lines contain micronutrients…

Thanks. I am going to rinse first then soak and drain. Then I will rinse to a 5.8 to 6.2 Ph runoff.

What coco are u using as the coco I use here don’t have to be buffered soak and expand and go. I e tried coco that needs buffered and if not done perfect it causes mad issues whilst growing. Lol. Canna coco is a great coco already pre buffered ready to expand and go.

The town I live in is so small we don’t even have mail service. There is A LOT of stuff I can’t get. Most of the stuff I want is out of range because of shipping charges. That is if they will even ship to here. What is available to me at a reasonable price is block coco. I am researching on making my own coco. Plenty of coconuts here since it is a beach area. Once they legalize cannabis here there will be a customer base of approximately 130,000,000. You could probably become a millionaire just selling Bic lighters with a pic of a marijuana leaf on it. Until then there are not enough people growing to create a market for most of the good stuff.
