Director of Cultivation
We are seeking a strategic and hands-on Director of Cultivation who is a true farmer and the center of the growing operation in Mendocino County. Responsible for the operational success of cannabis quality, growing process, nursery, farming planning, planting selection, canopy management, pest control, nutrition, and water management to achieve optimum results. Develops and manages operational and financial budget as well as reporting.
The ideal candidate is strategic and hands-on; well versed in managing day to day crop production operations, able to problem solve in real-time, and organize people and processes to successfully manage multiple acres of Cannabis cultivation in a rural environment. Must possess experience with outdoor native soil crop production, knowledge of cost-effective agricultural equipment, and bring new technologies in farming to improve cost and performance. This candidate is innovative, driven for success, excited about growing large scale farms, and knows how to manage both people and data to achieve results.
Our farms are located in several areas in Mendocino County with nursery operations in Laytonville Ca. Applicants living outside of Mendocino County must relocate to nearby towns in order to be available to manage the farms effectively.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

● Lead strategic and tactical planning, growing and crop care for multiple cultivation sites in Mendocino County facilities including; Mother Plant Configuration, scheduling of Annual Cutting, Planting, Harvest, IPM and Fertilizer.
● Manage and adhere to annual budget and assess cultivation COGs with the goal to increase productivity
● Allocate and fully utilize resources/assets effectively to produce optimal results in product output and quality.
● Refine and process updates for Work Order Spreadsheets and oversee month end cycle counts.
● Improve and implement nursery and flower cultivation SOP’s
● Lead employee development in cultivation practices to grow knowledge base and ensure SOP and best practices are implemented.
● Develop and implement irrigation strategies and crop techniques
● Communicate and align staff on strategic initiatives providing a clear sense of direction, sense of urgency, and focus.
● Provide β€˜hands on approach” to monitoring farming activities and implement corrective actions immediately.
● Collect and analyze data to find places of waste and implement solutions.
● Ensure cultivation and safety SOPs are implemented and followed.
● Build an engaged culture of continuous improvement; improving processes, reducing costs, and increasing quality.
● Recruit, manage, and develop staff. Ensure training and development is sufficient to enhance productivity while supporting the ongoing development and employee engagement.

● Address employee issues and concerns in a timely manner.

● Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Horticulture or Plant Science is highly preferred

● Knowledge and experience of outdoor grow yielding high-quality cannabis in a large scale setting and the knowledge to increase scale and maximize crop production in native soil. Commercial cannabis experience is preferred.
● Strong knowledge of business and management acumen (budgeting, planning, resource allocation, and people management)
● Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements in agriculture, METRC experience is a plus
● Proficient with Google Suite + Excel applications and computer technology
● Experience and knowledge of farming equipment and practices for large scale agriculture.

** Bi-Lingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
● Must be able to travel between cultivation sites (good driving record) and live/relocate to Mendocino County.
