I just got my electric bill the other day and it’s $600, not surprising but when another letter came in the mail saying you are using 99% more electricity than your neighbors it got me a little bit worried. Any energy saving tips anybody can give me? I’ve got a lot going on in my grow room and I don’t want to lower the lighting and I don’t qualify for solar panels so any ideas would be helpful
@hoppiefrog started a thread, a while ago, that might give you ideas…
What are you using right now for electrical? I know you’ve got a few Mars lights and a T5 fixture - anything else for fans, dehumidification, air conditioning?
The only suggestion I could make is to grow in a smaller space like @kapouic said.
I got the same letter saying I use more electricity than my neighbors too… Honestly running a generator daily will help cut that cost in half… I don’t but know growers that do to cut electric costs … A little noisie but there are so many on the market just shop around… We use this one in emergencies and at work
It wasn’t from me… it’s @hoppiefrog’s!
They even have solar powered generators… This one can pull 1800 watts should be enough to power your lights no problem
I have about four fans a CO2 regulator, a bubbler for my water reservoir a space heater for when the lights are out and a humidifier
All can run off a generator my friend… One time cost compared to monthly bill … Plus no electric company getting nosey lol… Again you can run this partial to cut that cost down and look like the average customer
Run your lights between 8 PM and 8 AM so you’re not using electricity during peak hours
Also a great idea… Implement a few new strategies and I’m sure you could make it happen
Dim your lights durning veg !
In veg turn your light on for 11 hours then off for 6 hours then on for one hour then back off for 6 hours. That will reduce tour electrical cost immediately.
Idk how it works down there but in Canada you need a time of day meter to get the of set hrs discount.
The space heater can use up to 100$ USD a month alone . A heat pump is necessary. But tbh I think your electricity is bleeding into the ground somewhere I have 3 8" fans ,1 24" fan, a big air pump 6 pedistil fans, 8 1000 w hps, 1 315 cmh. Two sump pumps, timers up the wazoo, vacuuming daily. 18000btu heat pump, 4000w of baseboard heat lol ECT … And my bill is a bit smaller and I do have power bleeding to ground lol… I’d say u have a power grid issue bro;)
I’m in California we Have peak hours that are more expensive from 8 AM till 8 PM then it’s cheaper from 8 PM till 8 AM
I’m going to do some research, good call on the heater it’s just there for a precautionary measure at night but it’s almost spring so I think I could cut that out
U must have time of day meters or there’s no way to tell hrs u use the power they are pricey if u don’t
Have you considered the 12-1 growing method. It can reduce your electrical bill by up to half. There is already a post about the 12-1.
A bit scary about your electrical bill, not good standing out from your neighbors. Good luck with finding a couple solultions to reduce it.
Exactly!!! That is who taught me!!! Joe is so right.
Yes he has been pushing this method for years, many people are slow to pick it up and it does save while increase yield. Are you near Joe, send him my regards and hope his health is improving. Been growing his genetics for years. Top stuff.
