Getting Ready For My First Grow

Greetings,

At the title suggests, I’ve started purchasing things for my first attempt at growing.

I think I may have went a bit far, but I have high hopes (don’t we all)

I bought a 4x8 tent for my basement, its only 600D, but I couldn’t find one that size at 1680D that was shorter than 80" and I only have 74" max (this tent is 72"- brand = vivosun)

Ordered Seeds from cropkingseeds.ca, purple kush autoflower, purple kush (fem/photoperiod) blue Haze (fem/photo) and from local dispensary ,pink lemonade (fem/pho) --plan to grow 1 each of the photoperiod and 3 auto to start

Got two Mars Hydro TSW 2000, the Autopot system for 6 and the aqua air 8 outlet pump, my plan was to put 1 line in each pot and the 2 extra in the water tank

I was going to use the clay pellets in the bottom, and a coco coir & perlite mix for the filler, I got the easy grow system nutrients from growindo as I believe they should work in this system

I’ve read a few guides and watched a few videos

Question 1
Anything seem wrong so far?

  1. Do i have to use the air domes for autopot or can I use any air stones?

  2. Perhaps the weirdest question, if I used the small rectangular air stone could I put it under the pot in the small reservoir that fills with water? Would it do anything under there?

welcome. i dont know anything about your system but jump in and grow. make mistakes and learn from them. good luck.

Sounds like you got a great head start! Welcome to Growers Network! I’m newish to growing 3 modest harvest and still earning everyday. Go to the university in the menu for growing lessons. They are quick and will get you off to a good start. Have fun

Hi @newgrower , welcome to GN. A good starting place is the GN Universty, loads to learn from online structured cannabis courses.

Answering your questions, I think the airstones are for your water resivour and the airdome for your pots.

You have your tent, lights, seeds, autopots, medium, you almost ready to go, but what you doing for airflow in the tent?

thanks,

I have a a nice tower fan that I plan to put in there, i was going to get two smaller fans to clip on the sides and I’m not sure what size exhaust fan to get the 4", 6" or 8"

I’m going to try and get some pics once i finally get everything set up, (got the tent and lights in the mail today)

I would go for 6 or 8 inch, 6x4x8=192 CFM ÷2 (minutes for an air change) = 96 CFM min + 40% ( 2 non air cooled lights) = 134.4 CFM Min. Add another 20% for a carbon filter if you choose to add one and for hot climates (Southern California, Arizona, etc…) add 25%. For humid and hot climates (Florida, Georgia, etc…) add 40%.

Congrats on your startup. WE all learn by mistakes and studying hard! This group of growers provide good advice, listen to what they say- don’t get disheartened if the first few grows are not perfect, that’s part of the learning curve. Good luck and ask questions. Large stinky buds are the goal!

is the exhaust fan to control the temp or humidity or just help the air exchange?

Should I get a dual temp and humidity controller? Or just a temp one?

I was thinking about, running the exhaust fan on a temp controller and getting a dehumidifier for inside the tent if I need one

I run a dehumidifier in my basement anyway

It can change everything in the climate.

so I should go with just the exhaust fan for now

and wait to see if i need heaters/AC or dehumidifer/humidifier

If you think you can play it by ear at first without killing anything. I like the idea of an exhaust fan with a controller as the minimum though, so at least that bit is automated. That way it’s easier to tell if you need to add something to the equation and if so, what.

You want the tallest tent you can fit in the space. After subtracting height for lights, exhaust equipment, filters and the height of the pots themselves, you don’t have as much grow space as you think you do.
These can get really tall really fast, and if you’re not careful you won’t have room to flower the plant.
Always go for the ceiling if possible in your grow area. If it’s too short, you will have small plants and buds.

i have 74" of height and bought a 72" tent

going to grow to one side of tent to leave room for other things, like the exhaust tube, fans, heater/ac, humidifier/dehumidifier, and hopefully enough room for me to stand

i plan to mount the exhaust fan & water tank outside tent

I’m hoping with the pot size around 24" and the lights being adjustable I will have enough room,

tried to pick strains that have shorter sizes the auto purp is 24" and the fem purp says its a smaller plant as well

was going to try LST on the auto’s and HST (possibly mainlining) the photoperiod

was looking at the

AC Infinity CLOUDLINE T6, Quiet 6” Inline Duct Fan with Temperature Humidity Controller on amazon

anyone know if this is a good system, comes with a temp/humid control for the fan and has 402 CFM

I haven’t had any problems with the T6 and you can always add an S6 to the same controller if you ever need to upgrade

Training will help, a lot.
You can limit it’s height in different ways.
If the light is too close the plant will not try and climb up, it will tend to fatten instead.

When you change over to Flower mode, the plants will double in size. Find out how much room you really have and plan to flip to flower mode when the plant is just under 1/3 the size of your available grow height.
You won’t be able to do this with autos.
