Hi everyone! We design LED grow lights for greenhouse use and are curious to learn from real growers. If you are using supplemental Led grow lights during the winter months, what results have you seen so far?
Are certain crops or setups performing better than others?
How are your greenhouse plants responding to supplemental LED lighting in winter?
Based in South Africa, LEDs with solar panels are big business especially in winter months to manipulate the vegging time. Our main growing region, Port St Johns looks like Las Vegas in winter with all the greenhouses having solar LED’s.
Alot of people are preferring to grow later in the months for a number of reasons.
Firstly growing later in the late summer is better for shorter plants, the high winds tend to break the stems and heavy rains in the summer months cause a lot of bud rot. A couple decades ago people would plant spring, these days many growers are waiting for late summer to grow, depending on how many crops they are growing.
Chris,
Aren’t you subtropical? And on the solar panel and grow lights, you guys much have huge battery banks to run the LED’s ??
