I noticed some brown discoloration and minor wilt on my weed plant. After some research, it seems like she may have a calcium deficiency.
I’m aware of the products that can be used to address this deficiency, however I’m wondering if ai could use things at hand to correct this?
I was thinking of grinding up some chia seeds, since they’re a good source of calcium. my question would the calcium in chia seeds be bioavailable to my weed plant?
Also, anyone have expereinces grinding up plants and seeds to address plant deficiencies?
I think that some organic matter has nutes available to the plant just ground up…but I think for the most part you have to make a tea or compost stuff to make it available. Or it has to break down over time in the soil via bio activity and turn into usable versions of the nutrient.
Hello @aaoli20 . Welcome to the grower network. We are glad to see you here.
Could you give some more info on your grow?
We can come up with many assumptions of what the problems might be, and how to rectify them. With more information , we can diagnose more accurately.
Have you made a journal before? Where you list the components of your grow. Temps, humidities, lighting, soil, type of nutrients, and as much more info as you can.
As for your chia seeds question, no i have not heard this before. Where did you come up with the idea? I am always looking for more organic routes to take myself.
Have a great time here at the network. We are glad to see you grow!
Boom there is your answer @aaoli20 I know I heard that one before! That’s a good call Miss Jane. Oh and welcome to the community and all that jazz. Keep it green!
I’ve been keeping a plant journal, but I haven’t been tracking conditions very well
I used potting mix from the shed, believe it was miracle grow brand, a planter with drains on a Styrofoam plate.
for lighting I used a 2 ft walmart brand grow light on a 12/12 schedule for the first week and then switched to a 18/6 schedule with supplemental sunlight.
this is her as of today. She, I call her plantana, is 19 days old.
thanks ssspotsmfg, I’ve been looking up compost teas today and I feel so excited by it! but I’m wondering if its recommended to use compost tea on indoor grows?
so, I’ve always wondered how it is that plants grow, like whats happening second by second. Is that a constant? is part of the plant always dying in order for it to grow?
You would do best to extract the calcium from eggshells with vinegar.you would need to remove latex membrane before soaking in vinegar. You can make cal phos by burning bones in bbq till they don’t weigh much at all ,soak in vinegar. You can ferment as well so you can store for longer time frames
Miracle grow has time release fertilizer in it, and is too hot for a seedling for the most part. The seed leaf dies off so that is normal. You should grow seedlings on a 18/6 hour schedule. 12/12 is for flowering. At 19 days it should be a lot bigger. You’ll get there, she is pretty healthy overall.
