@happilyretired would be a person to ask he uses it.
You are the best @nacho151 thanks

Fill up that duster that came with your DE. Dust the top of the soil all the way around completely cover it with the duster. depending on the size of your plant, I dust up the main stock a little bit. On my current outdoor when I do it I go up almost a foot. Just the main stock and all the way around the base of the plant. It stays on the stock of the plant but when you water it waters into your soil. It is still there doing its job. Repeat again in a week or so and then you won’t need to do it for probably a month. The reason I keep it on the Stocks at the base of the plant on my outdoor plants, is it keeps ants from raising aphids on your plants and there’s also soil mites that will climb up and trash your plants. DE take care all that.
Ah man. It gets everywhere. Lol.
Turn off your fans when you do this
Thank you @happilyretired . It doesn’t come with real instructions on the package. And I wasn’t sure. I didn’t want to over do it. It’s basically silica yes ?
And wasn’t sure if you should water it in after application ?
Will definitely do that. Thanks @Maz
Oh and DO NOT BREATHE IT! Very very bad for lungs!
Going to use a high grade mask and eye protection.
Thanks @PreyBird1 .
My solution is use a fork u eat with and loosen the top layers of dirt or coco as much as u can by lightly raking the top and suck it out with a ship vac get as much as u can without harming roots and replace with new soil but prior to adding new if u have a bug killer like capn jacks ect give a douse of that and then put new coco or dirt in to replace what u sucked out. Fung gnats only live in the room 1 to 3 inches and same with their eggs and larvae so the more u suck out better chances of ridding the eggs and larvae also. If u have patience give the pot a watering like 10 mins prior to doing the scraping and removing when u water the larvae will work their way to top of soil to be in some air so if u water and get them to the top it will help get most of the movers out. Every flyer u see while doing this suck up in vac then leave a fan blowing on them in a good breeze as the gnats can’t fly there if the breeze is hard enough. I suffered them once now I may see a single one here or there unless it’s shit that flys in the front door with the kiddos in and out stuff lol.
I had gnats and then i learned it was from over watering. And i learned hiw to stop them. Now i get thrips here and there from out in myard because its pretty big and they come from the garden. But there easy to kill with Monterey garden spray. Mites are a serious adversary! They are hard to kill. Ive had them 6 times. And i beat them 4x and they beat me like 2x and lot of flower gone because they move fast. They are microscopic and move faster than you think and they also spin silk webs and can slide right down them like a spider. Also they can make a silk web and fly along on it sneaky tiny bastards! And its better to treat the plants like they have bugs in the first place and spray/treat them because prevention is wayyyy easier than trying to take down an infestation!!
Definitely going to keep this in mind for all my future grows thanks @PreyBird1
It’s hard for me to get much done in the daytime because I have children climbing on me pretty much all day. But im starting to learn how to get around that a little. As for the preventive application of the pest control, it’s like what my older brother always told me growing up. It’s better to have something and not need it. Then to need something and not have it.
Not to sure if it has been mentioned, but diatomaceous earth is great to pre mix into your soil due to its silica content. So just an added benefit, plus when you mixing up your soil you should have safety gear on already.
Thanks @chrisj i kept all my protective gear on. It’s like baby powder . I opened up the bag and boom lol.
