With just enough time to get the nearest bus I waddled down my driveway with three
marijuana plants still in bloom swinging back and forth. These plants had been grown in a
bedroom closet with a light, that to todays standards, would look like Edison’s first. But they
were mine! My father chose to disagree entirely calling the authorities. Although illegal in itself,
i was freeing myself from less than savory situations encountered being a consumer of
marijuana. It was 1991 and i was taking a San Francisco bus to my friend and savior at the time,
Joe Ceasar, where we let the pungent Skunk No. 1 plants flower in secret on a rooftop in the
Richmond District. This was my first foray into the world of marijuana and independence
thereof. Be it by fate or chance i would continue this path through the epicenter of a
groundbreaking movement the marijuana culture and industry has assumed.
My story continued like most within the culture, reading High Times Magazine from
cover to cover and finding friends and resources by word of mouth. I was introduced to the
Cannabis Buyers Club(CBC) in 1994, through a caregiving job with an aids patient named Lee
Burnside. Due to lower back pain from a car accident i was a worthy candidate for the
clandestine community created at 1444 Market St, the CBC. I immediately started volunteering
my time to gain a glimpse into a world my peers and elders had created. This history being
created before my eyes was the centerpiece of my education and understanding of the industry.
Working every possible job be it storefront sales, cultivation, or transport there was a lot to be
learned especially without many regulations. Cultivation eventually became the forefront as i
assumed the position of head grower at the CBC. From 3 plants in a closet to management of
almost 4000 plants and clones as well as 10 growers on Market street my abilities had hit their
stride. Unfortunately like my father, the US Government still disagreed.
A series of raids hit California reseting the progress on many locations throughout including one
of my own at a dispensary on Van Ness owned by Dr John himself. i stayed with Dr John for a
time under the Flower Power brand and then moved on to Darma Producers Group at the
legendary Warfield Building in San Francisco. My exploration and passion for extracts Started
when i met Dave, the creator of HI Brew the first marijuana beer. Like watching a mad scientist i
was exposed to ethanol extraction where a sap like resin material was gawked over as a new
powerful, pungent and uniquely effective product was seeing the light of day. Unfortunately due
to heavier government presence and repetitive raiding sweeps i decided a different career was a
better choice for a time. I learned the wonderful trade of massage in Los Gatos at the Royal
Touch school of massage. It was a flexible trade and the freedom brought me eventually to
Sacramento where i worked at the airport for a time, cultivating as a second income. The
industry was starting to take leaps and bounds into the retail market and in popular culture, the
grey areas were getting smaller and the raids and bothersome politics had lulled, so i made my
move. In 2009 I opened the first location i could call my own, with a few partners, South
Sacramento Care Center. With hard work it became a great success allowing the exclusive
relationships and origins of such brands as The Village, a highly sought after extract and flower
brand now commonplace on any high grade consumers palette.
Throughout these years i had been exposed to massive social movements and
participated in historic ceremonies; had partaken in parties the likeness of is hard to believe.
Wether it be phone calls in the middle of a protest announcing a Raid on our business to regular
visits from the likes of Brownie Mary, Hazel Rogers or Cheech and Chong. I have always had a
passion for this industry wether it is within patient relationships that last for years and bring joy
and relief into peoples lives to the ever progressing industry of cannabis extracts and its
influence on local and now state economy throughout California. With this experience i would
like to make my own mark on history with 3fer extracts, bringing quality product at
compassionate pricing.
