Huge grow operation opening in Canada

As usual, scientists measure things in football fields, and this will be a 16 football field sized greenhouse.

Holy mackrel that’s huge. Will that be the largest greenhouse setup in the world? Interesting to see that they’ll be doing an HPS/LED hybrid for lighting. I wonder how much the whole installation will cost to get up and running?

There are larger vegetable greenhouses, which normally cost about 1/2-1 million per acre I believe.

Makes sense - given that 800k sq feet is roughly 18 acres, that means $9M to $18M for this operation to get started.

WOW This is very cool, the company has had some stock growth this year. The PE ratio is still negative though. What do you guys think the stock price will be in 10 years?

Good question. It looks like they got a bit of a bump from the announcement at least: +1.46%

Here is another company out of Canada which seems to be very advanced. Actually just heard of Canopy, but they seem to be the parent company managing about a dozed smaller ventures.

Good for them. Here’s hoping that their new grow operation goes well.

The largest canna grow op I’ve heard about was somewhere in the 4 acre range I think. Is tweed inc that size? There is a large greenhouse operation in Arizona I believe too. In that 4-5 acres. Never heard of 800,000 Sq ft in this industry.
The final report was submitted to the prime minister in Canada today. Good timing. (I tried to post this a couple weeks ago, so ignore the timing of the report to the prime minister)

Tweed is around 400,000 square feet, I believe. I’ve been looking up some of the largest companies out there.

That thing is going to be state of the art revolutionary in more ways than just size… thing if a mold issue or something broke out in there. Fucking amazing. Thanks for the post.

Would be really nasty if tobacco mosaic virus snuck in too.

Here is a list for USA greenhouse production by size

I need to find a list for Europe. There are some monster glasshouses in the Netherlands and Spain. As I recall one operation had 300 acres under cover. I think it was a Dutch bulb forcer. There are some really big hydroponics vegetables operations.

But when you look at the big vegetable production it is 30 to 60 day crops cycle. They are growing lettuce and such. Not a very good comparison. The Spanish operations were sited for some ground water faults in there hydroponics operations. Need to find the news story.
