Hypochlorous Acid.....Deep Dive

The strips that come with the machine are terrible. It’s very difficult to tell the shades apart, I ended up getting some restaurant free chlorine test strips that change colour instead of shade, they are much easier to read.

Do you have to make any changes to the formula I’m using? Extra vinegar at the end?

I’ve been doing 1 per cycle as well, I haven’t added extra after yet.

@smokinjoe,

Tree found the best chlorine test strips !
Most guys are running three of the 8 minute cycles.
Add your vinegar before the first and second. Go ahead and run your third…just check you finished pH…you’re looking for between 3.5-5.5…you can adjust with additional vinegar at the completion of the third cycle.
Some guys are running additional cycles…it’s personal choice…again whether you run 3 or 5 cycles just keep an eye on that pH…

If you’re going to store some for later use, I recommended you keep it at 3.5-3.7. At that pH storing it in a opaque regular polyethylene jug, in a dark indoor cupboard or closet it will essentially last indefinitely…

I know @happilyretired and @ravenchief have experimented extensively with their formulations and I would value their expertise !

I do exactly as you said Bob. I do three cycles at eight minutes each. I have found that I do 1.5 L of RO water with 3 g of kosher salt and 24 mL of white vinegar works good. :vulcan_salute::sunglasses:

@ravenchief
Do put all parts in at the first cycle and then run 3 cycle

Yes - I experimented with several formulations and found that putting all the elements in the first and then running the cycles got me to the proper strength and ph consistently

Thanks fellaz for being patient with me and answering my questions. I just don’t want to spend money on shit I don’t need

What about diluting the three cycle batch, 1:1 for spray plants?

Personally I would use the 3 cycle undiluted so your guaranteed 200+ ppm

From The Eco One Electrolyzed Water System makes HOCL disinfectant

Concentrations up to 200 ppm of hypochlorous acid (HOCl)
Production Rate (Setting 1): 1 Liter at 40 ppm in 3 minutes
Production Rate (Setting 2): 1 Liter at 60 ppm in 5 minutes
Production Rate (Setting 3): 1 Liter at 100 ppm in 8 minutes
Production Rate (Setting 3): 1 Liter at 200 ppm in 16 minutes

Concentrations over 400 ppm of hypochlorous acid (HOCl)
After generating 200 ppm, if you continue to run additional cycles on setting 3 (8-minute cycles), each additional cycle will raise the concentration approximately 80 ppm.
Production Rate (Setting 3): 1 Liter at 400 ppm in 40 minutes (five 8-minute cycles

So I took the dive and made a batch with 3 cycles (undiluted) and sprayed a few plants this evening. They were the worst of the plants with wpm so hopefully this works out and I can treat the whole room.
Forgive me for being skeptical but this just doesn’t seem like a good idea spraying an acid that smells like a swimming pool on my buds that are 5 weeks into flower. First time in 15 years I’ve had a need too.

@smokinjoe I don’t blame you for being skeptical but there are a ton of products sold for a pretty high mark up that are the exact same thing in a bottle

If you are worried about salt or wpm residue you can always do a bud wash at the end for extra peace of mind

A few of use have checked the free chlorine ppm and verified it’s rough range which means we made what were trying to and the right amount of it. I’ve have been running my res on the bottled stuff for a while and have now fully switched over to the home made version. Besides the free ppm test my reservoir would look like a toxic stew right now if it wasn’t working. Me and @Dog_Fart1 and I believe another member have also tested the home made stuff on PWM with success. It WILL kill it but won’t totally remove the dead own from the leaf.

One of the bottled stuffs advertised uses is as a foliar for pwm

Tree is absolutely correct…and do realize after you spray your plants the pm will be dead but the white mycelium remains…it’s dead and will eventually break down, but if you cant stand looking at it just moisten a soft towel will the acid and wipe it off…

What ratio do you use in your rez?
I use 275 gallon totes so I’m hoping it doesn’t take much lol

@smokinjoe

Well if you were to use 5 mL per gallon it would need 1375 mL. So about 1 1/3 L on the high side. That would take you less than an hour to produce If you’re making your own. :+1:t3::+1:t3::v:t3:

I run it 5 times and add 3-5 ml/g. A few brands use more because it’s watered down ( instructions on a 200ppm bottle may say add 6-10 ml/gal for example)

@smokinjoe Do you run a sterile res or benificials?

It’s more of a central reservoir. I have 2 totes side by side. 1 collects my condensate water and the other is from my well. I have tanks in each room that I mix nutrients in as needed

Clearline is supppsed to be a 3 to 1 compared to uc roots. Way strong. I am about to start using it.
