Greetings Everyone,

Thank you for the warm welcome. I have much work to do today so I will keep this brief for now anyway.

I grew for five years for two cannabis dispensaries in Arizona under one owner. The business was stolen by an investor and it is currently scheduled for trial sometime in August. While working here I designed and built several facilities while running operations simultaneously. I am a perfectionist and extremely competitive, especially with myself. I had one facility dedicated to experimentation for the duration of my tenure. Wow, I could write a book about my journey of working twenty hours a day for five years. So much more to talk about, but it’ll have to wait until this evening.

Again, thank you for the welcome and I look forward to mingling with community members soon. You all have a wonderful day.

Respectfully,

D_Rock

Hi, Thanks for the invite to the forum!

I’m a first time grower in Canada, as it’s now legal to grow 4 plants per household!) I’m really enjoying it and I want to get good at growing big-buds.
This forum seems like it has potential.
What I could use help with right now is - I just set up a 48x48x80 tent with LCD lights and I’m having a problem controlling the heat in the tent.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Welcome to GN @mdono1717  We have a few other Canadian :canada: growers here with us  and congratulations on Canada going legal

Let me see if someone has suggestions on your heat issue @tdubwilly @macgyver_stoner @myfriendis410

Can you give us a bit more info on your setup? LCD? What are your ambient temps day and night, where is the tent located and is there central a/c, what kind of exhaust fan, type of grow (hydro, soil, etc).

There are some things you can do like adding a small exhaust fan up high running constantly to remove the air from the top of the tent space. A physical barricade between the upper section of the lights (hot side) and the lights can further isolate the heat above, to be rejected with a fan.

Running an exhaust fan on a thermostat works. A/C might be an option depending.

Also, what is the draw on that ceramic light your using @mdono1717

Hi, Thanks for getting back. More details of my setup:

Again, problems controlling heat in my 48x48x80 tent setup in my non-ac house.

  • using 2 Phlizon 1000w with cree cob

  • using 190 cfm, with 4"ec fan

  • using an rc48 carbon filter

Ambient temps in range alot, but inside my tent is usually +10 degrees from the room it’s in. With summer coming I’m concerned about a heat wave!

Also, I’m not sure how hot plants can tolerate??

Thanks again.

84F is my upper limit before I start to take measures. 78F is perfect with 50 to 55% RH. Your fan is a bit small for the space and might recommend an upgrade there to a 6 inch. Move more air and that will help. If you need to cool the space; cool the room it’s in.

It’s your in veg, then smell shouldn’t be a huge issue, take your carbon filter off till flower and you would get much better airflow till you can get a fan that exceeds 440 cfm.

Having ambient temps in your room with in the right range but temps in the tent 10° higher means your not getting near the air exchange that you should. 190c.f.m exhaust fan for a 4x4x8 honestly just won’t cut it with lights that produce decent amounts of heat

Are you exhausting? Or is it sealed with co2 supplement And hows your internal airflow? Post some pics of your setup (everything I would have suggested already has been lol)

Thanks #myfriend410,
Ive been trying and holding sub-80F, so I’m glad I’ve got a bit of + temp room.
Thx for the info.

Thx for the info #tdubwilly
I’m using led lights with a small fan blowing air around the inside of my tent.
I’ve got a thermometer close to my air-intake, and another inside my tent close to “mid-canopy” height. What differential would be ideal?

Hi, thx for the feedback.
I’ve found found success with the ec motor i bought. When i crank the speed it seems to cool the tent down. Also, we had an old a/c unit that was so loud we couldn’t use it in our bedroom; but it’s helping with the ambient temp o/s my tent, in my garage.
I’ll need to get some ducting etc., and have another Q

  • How long of a 4" exhaust can you have before adding an inline fan?
    Again, thx for getting back

That’s a good question but impossible to answer. Different light sources produce varying amounts of heat making the cooling requirements different. An HPS light would require much cooler temps circulating into the tent than some of the more modern LEDs.

Really it depends on the cfm or cubic feet per minute being moved by the fan. I don’t know the math but if it was my grow I would probably add another fan @ the 10’ - 15’ range

Hi
I’m a new grower, and want to add CO2, but i’m concerned about controls, exhausting, safety, etc. Can you help me, or do you have a link.
Thx

Hi @tmass95 and welcome again to GN  Here is where you can introduce yourself and maybe tell us a little about you and your growing style so we can get to know you a little more.

If you need anything at ALL just let us know. You can always tag someone just by putting the “@” symbol in front of their name just like @missiles .
