Essentially, Denver has an unusually high level of ozone, which is bad for air quality. Ozone is often formed when Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2) and hydrocarbon compounds mix in sunlight. Cannabis emits a hydrocarbons in the forms of terpenes into the surrounding environment, so researchers are investigating whether this is creating a problem for ozone.
