Is this a hermed plant?

I have seen plants herm in later flower but never on day 10 of flower. Does this look like a herm?

Depends, if it is showing both male which that flower in your picture IS. and female flowers then it is a herm. If it was a Fem seed that the plant is from then more than likely it is. One flower does not the sex determine. Let it go a bit and see what happens. Are you still in veg or have you cut the lights back?

Hey Marty

I beg to differ, that is definitely a herm, clearly a male pollen sack popping out there. @loganmn12 It is very early for a herm to show, but there you have it.

might indeed be Chris, but i have had a male flower or two and then went into full blown girl, but I sure would never have made any seeds of it.

Thank you for the comments. It is in flower at day 10 and the seeds are fem(the Cali connection). If this is a herm that certainly wouldn’t surprise me as 80% of what I have grown from the Cali Connection has hermed on me in the past. I stupidly bought 20 or so old school strains from them when they had a sale but I am regretting now. Its very surprising a company that has been around for so long would still be selling bunk seeds.

User reviews and forum discussions indicate that some batches of

Cali Connection feminised seeds have had issues with a high rate of hermaphroditism (hermies). This suggests potential instability in certain feminized genetics offered by the company in the past.

Specific reports from growers mention:

  • High Hermie Rates: One user reported that 2 out of 5 germinated LA Cookies feminized plants displayed hermaphroditic traits, even under controlled conditions, suggesting unstable genetics.
  • Specific Strains Affected: Other growers have reported hermies with strains like Purple Chem, Blue Dream Haze, and OGiesel from Cali Connection.
  • General Reputation Concerns: Some users on growing forums advise caution or suggest avoiding their feminized line due to past negative experiences and perceived “bad breeding practices” or quality control issues.
  • Varied Experiences: While some users have had negative experiences, others may have had better results, but the frequency of negative reports suggests a potential risk of instability in some feminized lines compared to other breeders or regular seeds.

It is important to note that any feminized seed has a slightly higher intrinsic chance of developing hermaphroditic traits under environmental stress compared to regular seeds, as the feminization process itself involves inducing a female plant to produce pollen. However, the user reports specifically highlight issues with Cali Connection’s genetics even when environmental factors (like light cycles, temperature, and nutrients) were reportedly well-controlled.

Well that just sucks. So many companies these days are prioritizing profit over quality. It’s a shame. With that herm rate I would just chop and start over anything showing male traits.

Thank you for the comments. I do plan to never buy from them again but still will grow out what I bought from them as I love the old school strains they have and the ones that have not hermed are stellar. I do have to say though there customer support was good and they sent new seeds but still doesn’t excuse the fact so many herm and its not just one strain that have.

Herm strains so far are:

Larry OG 1/3

Tahoe OG 2/3

Deadhead 3/3

Headband 1/2

Unknown strain(free pack) 3/3

Sour diesel 2/2

I have been growing for years now and never had the this kind of herm rate. Typically it’s like 1 in 10 herm on me from other breeders.
