About 1 1/2 weeks ago I noticed leaf burn (?) on the Monkey Slapz. I cut back on nutrients and fed only RO water + CalMag (~ 6.2 pH) for a few days. Goji appears fine, so normal nutrients for it.
A very generous friend has allowed me to borrow an HLG 200 SpecR and I have hung it in the tent’s center. HLG said, since the tent is 4×4, it’s a good idea to keep using the two Vanect lights I already have.
Two days ago I notice some of the Slapz’s leaves curling upwards. I placed a 6" little fan aimed at the top of that plant. I also have had a large 2-blade downward facing fan near the top of the tent as well as an exhaust fan.
The lights are 15" above the highest points of both plants, and I measured PAR levels.
My questions: 1. What can be causing the continued discoloration and curling?
2. Are the temp and humidity at acceptable levels?
3. Never having used a great light like HLG 200; do I have it in the correct placement and are the par levels acceptable? The Vanect lights are crummy on their own.
The temps are pretty high at that stage of flower you should be in the upper 70s at the highest usually middle to lower 70s by now the fan you have on the ceiling is blowing all of the heat from the lights right down at the plants that’s why the leaves are tacoing heat rises you should have a fan from the floor blowing air upwards if you’re wanting cooler air preferably somewhere by your intake vent so it’s fresh cool air
Thanks. Should I remove the dual blade fan that’s at tge ceiling and place it on the floor blowing upwards? Would that be too much wind directly on the plants? What if I open the tent door a few hours during the day?
I would definitely take it off the ceiling that’s why it’s so warm in your tent try leaning it in the corner facing upwards at a steep angle if possible that way it won’t hit the plants too much but we’ll move a lot of air around the room
First thing tomorrow. Thanks.
great advice from @jj520 , I am sure you will come right.
This is really getting to be a pain trying to reposition the large fan with all of the lights and cords hanging all over the place.
Please tell me if I still need to keep the two huge Durolux 2x4 lights on. I learned that they are only good for flowering but isn’t it good to have as much light as possible in the tent? If I don’t need them right now, please let me know. Link is below.
The large fan I am trying to reposition cannot be completely removed and repositioned because of how it is connected to the rear top bar of the tent and the plants are in the way as is the netting. I’m just trying as best I can to stretch out its hanging lines so that it is a little lower and blowing against the inside of the front door so that the wind can bounce off and get to the plants instead of directly onto the plants.
Other than that, there isn’t anything else I can do to fix the temp in the tent. I can’t get another fan. The Slapz is the one that appears to have the curling leaves, not the Goji. So maybe the Slpaz is just going to burn up. I’ll still have a single plant.
Here is what I was able to do. That fan is positioned so that, when the door flap is closed, the air reflects off the door and down to the floor/plants.
I think anything with it hanging up high is going to suck the heat from the top of the tent and blow it down low anything above mid-70s and flower will evaporate off your terps and flavor if you’ve got just a regular household oscillating fan put that in there and turn the big fan off you could try turning your duralux lights off and see where your numbers are a
If it were me I would take that one double light and the two singles and put them in a Ford dice pattern above the two plants about 2 ft above so it gives you some decent light spread and see where your numbers are with those on high you will still need some air steering on the lower level not pulling air from the top
Ford dice pattern?
4 dice pattern
I don’t know what a four dice pattern is.
I moved the dual blade fan to the bottom of the tent and used a pair of bricks to raise it from the floor. It is difficult to tell from the photo, but a couple of the outermost clumps of both plants are in the direct path of the air, and with the netting being there, I am unable to move the plants back towards the rear wall of the tent. I also moved the thermometer down to plant level (it is stuck to the left tent wall near the Slapz). Hopefully, these adjustments will bring the temp from the low 80s down to the mid 70s.
The leafs are from the Goji. I am noticing the center of the clumps are a bright green. Does that indicate good health being due to the much better grow light? The Goji does not have the nutrient burn as did the Slapz. I trimmed off as many of those burned leaves as possible and haven’t seen it reappear. I cut back on the amount of dakine420.
I did something to help my temps that could possibly help you if you are handy (and it looks like you are). A ton of heat is produced from the power supplies mounted on top of the LED plates. I seperated those and put the power supplies outside of the tent and just ran extension cords to the actual LED plates. It took a huge chunk of heat out and helped control that sweet spot
Good luck!!
Hey, now that is the suggestion of the week! I need to make certain I have wire of sufficient gauge handy.
That’s a lot of work if it heats up your lung room your tent will suck warm air in and it will still be counterproductive all you need to do is get that fan on the ground
A four dice pattern if you look at a dice it has four dots on it place your lights just like that pretty basic
The light green is New growth that has not got the chlorophyll in it yet
I took a look at my lights, and it doesn’t look as straightforward as I thought it would be.
Yeah it can be tricky. jj520 has a good point, you’ll still need to move that hot air out if it can get back in. I exhaust mine outdoors.
I don’t understand why, even with that dual blade fan on the bottom and blowing upwards and the 6" diameter exhaust fan pulling air out, the temperature remains around 85-86. The exhaust fan is plenty strong, it creates negative pressure in the tent.
Does your exhaust fan exhaust to the exterior or back into the room you will need your lung room to be in the lower 70s to keep the tent around the mid 70s it’s because you have four or five drivers in there cranking that puts out a lot of heat
It exhausts out into the room. That room stays warmer than the rest of the house. It is the only place where the tents can go.
