NYC Legal Auto Grow Accidentally Topped on Day 35

Hi everyone! I’ve got two autos in a 10 Gal DIY living soil, both ILGM, one Jack Herer and one Green Crack. Yesterday I accidentally beheaded the GC, it snapped under the twine sometime after it was secured so I didn’t catch it until it began to scab over a half hour(?) later. I dug a hole, filled it with some of my charged seed starting mix, dipped the stub in cloning powder, threw it in the dirt, and drenched some light seaweed extract. i covered it with a wet rag dome supported by garden stakes for moisture and shade.
Today… the clone was looking as expected, wilted but alive, I sprayed and doused 2-6-2 fish & seaweed. The JH and original GC had EXPLODED in just 24hrs as pictured… I think due to the corn, chia, chickpea SST I did yesterday, shoutout Coot. It’s also been rainy the last few days so RH hasn’t dropped below 70% in 48hrs. I’m hoping to get a little from the clone, make it into butter or something, but good for science if nothing else.
I’ll post more about my setup in the thread. Feel free to comment on whatever!

This grow is in a 2x2.5 gorilla lite. I started w a Vipar P1000, moved up to XS1500 pro a few weeks in; I’m watching PPFD/DLI with Photone. 10 gal Saran wrapped fabric pot, 1:1:1 mix (coco, perl, Coast of Maine Lobster compost) w some all purpose (happy frog) and bloom (rainbow mix), a little DE, some old VermisTera worm castings, and cypress mulch w neem underneath hopefully to help w N lock-out and kill/repel soil surface pests. I have various organic bottled nutes and microbes I’ll rotate watering and foliar spraying, with BioAg FulPower being a frequent addition. I threw in some red wrigglers from my worm bucket. Genetics are 2 year old ILGM auto seeds that I’ve had problems with going photo.
Environment is a 4” AC Infinity pro fan pumping into a lung room w an AC unit. I need to invest in a dehumidifier because the AC has a “dry” setting but it cools at full power so the room gets cold quick and dries slowly. I have high CFM kit and keep the fan on 6 or 7, hoping to mitigate any humidity issues (JH is mold resistant, but GC is susceptible).
It’s my 4th grow now, hoping to have 3rd successful harvest. Hoping to learn a lot from any input from anyone:) oh AND I’m looking for good NY state breeders, or at least any good Northeast breeders:) tired of NorCal catalogs with only Mediterranean climate options and I’d like to support someone local:)

With it being autos I doubt it will make it and if it does what u see is basically what I’ll get it’ll flower right away most likely just hope it didn’t hinder the plant too much and cause a stunt autos r pretty picky but can still handle quite a bit of abuse

Yup… I think this seals the deal for me switching to photo… I like to tinker with things like this (and leave room for accidents like this) so autoflowers are no fun for that.

The plant seemed to take it in stride. The photo of the attempted clone uncovered is 24hrs before the pic where it’s covered w cloth and plastic wrap. You can see the GC (on the right) took it in stride and continued to grow and hasn’t really slowed down since, now almost 24hrs after the most recent pic. I think I’m attributing that to the SST, I’ll have to try it again sometime. I don’t know enough about plant hormones, but I wonder if the apical meristem being bent below some buds and branches had already diverted a lot of the hormones away as to cause less stress when it was beheaded. The worst part is it’ll start bushing out now, I was hoping it would stretch up tall because I’m limited on lateral space and GC is vulnerable to PM.

We’ll see :person_shrugging: at least I have a 4x2 setup on the way… but that’ll need to wait another few weeks for the soil to arrive and cook. Gotta find some new genetics before then too, so I can pop the seeds in some solo cups while the soil cooks (another photo perk).

If u have the extra cash grab a bottle of blue magic it’s great against mildews and mds even certain bugs. It’s like a hundred bucks a quart but really works well if u hit the whole plant the first time and keep a fan blowing on her it’s great stuff. I’ve even tried bud wash with some and it’s great no after tastes or anything bad. And yes for limited space autos r great to grow ast
They don’t get huge usually fem photos are best for inside grows as u don’t have to worry about males popping up to the party. Lol.

Hmmm I just found a non-concentrate bottle of Blue Magic for $20, might have to try it out  I use Lost Coast Plant therapy and it’s done me well as a preventative, but I the ingredients tell me it’s essentially a DIY essential oil spray, so I don’t have much confidence for it to stamp out any substantial infection/infestation. It didn’t work on the cabbage worm eggs in my garden, but I’m not really sure if it was supposed to…
Edit: I just searched lost coast on a few forums and people seem to be preaching its gospel, or recommending stuff with very similar ingredients like PureCrop1

I’m gonna see how it goes with photos, I just ordered my first round. I will probably try 12/12 from seed eventually (depending on genetics), but for now I like the idea of training them a lot to keep them in the space, maybe even as a gateway to doing some bonsai (like golddustfarms on IG).

Nothing can stop these girls!!! GC is still moving shockingly fast, not stunted at all from the top. She’s showing some sex characteristics, I hope she starts flowering asap since she’s filling up the space. JH is still getting outpaced, but she’s cranking out some HUGE 9+ fingered leaves. It’s supposed to be a little smaller and stretch late so I’m not worried.

I feel like I could be defoliating more but I’m stressing about stressing them too much, so I just stick with a few of the big ones.I could potentially move this grow into my new 2x4 to finish up, but I’d like to give my soil a few weeks to cook & cover crop. I’d rather that than risking mold but I’m not sure if I’ve got the man power to move a fully loaded 2x4 bed back into the tent

Almost two weeks later and green crack is off to a vigorous beginning of flower, does not even care that it got its head cut off.
Trellis net, defol, and top dress today.
Before and after trellising

Soil critters were fed a little chop & drop, a handful of malted barley & oat, and two handfuls of BAS worm castings. I tossed in .4g of BioAg ion-14… I couldn’t find any top dress rates, and conveniently my scale doesn’t read below .4g so it felt right.

I maybe should’ve netted them up a little earlier, but the canopy really hadn’t started to get uneven till the last few daysMan shrugging :man_shrugging: I caught 3 leafhoppers, which… it doesn’t look like there are meant more than that based on the damage.

I’m gradually shortening the days for the next few nights (while monitoring DLI w Photone), then I’m going to give them 24-48hrs darkness if Herer doesn’t look like it’s kicking into flower. I’ve had issues w these genetics not flowering before (see my 100+ day Herer run that i eventually had to chop; the next run I also had to flip the lights), so I gotta make sure it flowers ASAP so it doesn’t outgrow the tent.

Extra pics: Jack Herer stem after defol (it likes to grow a lot of tiny leaves at the bottom the main stem), then Green Crack’s much larger and more solid-looking stem.
