Anybody got a nuclear option for grasshoppers? My yard is infested. I only have 2 girls right now on a cart doing an in and out grow. They are starting the 3rd week of flower with one being treated with STS solution for an S1 seed run. No hoppers on them yet. I’m keeping a close eye but I think it’s just a matter of time if I don’t do some preventive maintenance. The treated girl is just starting to show balls. Any solutions considered and appreciated.
I just found this article that might help you out.
Yes, there are biological bacterial insecticides that can target grasshoppers effectively. One example is Bacillus thuringiensis var. kurstaki (Btk), which is particularly effective against grasshopper larvae. Another option is Nosema locustae, a microsporidian insecticide that specifically targets grasshoppers and is often used in wheat fields. These biological solutions are eco-friendly and minimize harm to non-target species.
Trust me when I say I had one single grasshopper eat a 4 inch long bud overnight last year. If you use the methods that that gal on the above post uses your pot will be gone before the grasshoppers.
The bacterial insecticides literally eat them up from the inside out. They munch on the plant, then get a “bellyache” if you will, it causes them to lose their appetite, and they stop eating, then it kills them. If your method doesn’t stop them from munching almost instantly, your plant is done for.
Just my experience.
Marty
This is what Marty is taking about. This works. Ive sprayed it and waited, to watch the caterpillars crawl out of the stalks. Then i plucked them right off my plants lol.
Not harmful to you or pets. Only caterpillars and alike bugs.
There are other bt products for other bugs too. Bt is the genus and the subspecies change ; as well the bugs they eat.
