Question about taproot length

I’m trying out the paper towel method for germination. My shell has cracked open and I can see the taproot a little bit is that sufficient or should it be longer

I just put these seeds in soil as you see them. I put in soil usually as soon as I see the taproot. A little longer is nice and some will say necessary. The longer the taproot the more the chance of it breaking.

Ok thanks, guess I’ll get started

I’m with you @smokin_ernie, I like to plant my seeds as soon as they look like the left 2 in your picture. I’ve never let them get longer than that. There’s no need. All we are trying to do is initiate germination, and when they look like that, your successful @grillman65.

Thanks again, so what I did is cut the cube in half and then laid the seed down, root pointing down. Also put a small piece in the hole

Are you using rock wool cubes? Just curious

I wait untill I have at least a half inch taproot but I’m not sure if it matters that much as long as it pops

Yes, rock wool cubes

Cool I have used rapid rooters they are softer than the rock wool. Used for clones so a little different. Have you been using rock wool with success?

Hello @grillman65,
Instead of making a new topic each time you have a question you might want to think about starting a grow journal.
This way those of us that are growing in the same style as you can keep an eye on your grow as it progresses.
We can see where you’re at and maybe offer advice before/if anything goes out of wack.
Keeps all your grow info in the one place for reference too…

You should be able to just pull them apart vertically…

Tap on the top left, the green leaf.
Then tap new topic. Remember to put it in a category e.g.,grow from home, so it goes to the right place.
Look forward to watching your new journals…
