I have a month old plant in 5al of coco showing yellowing- consistent top to bottom. Runoff shows 450ppm but PH at 7.8. I water at 5.5. flushed at 5.2 and still show PH high. Is my coco junk?
What PPM are you feeding? Also, pictures always help
950-1150ppm at feedings RO 5.2-5.5 going in 7.8 coming out at 450ppm.
Is the buffer coming out of the coco?
atodd,
Don’t know if this applies to you or not but some coco coir has high sodium content. If you have some of the coco you used still in the bag you might steep it in r/o water for a hour or two and check the EC and pH of that water… Unfortunately the quality varies widely across coco products…
If you find that is the source of your problem…you need to flush your coco with a sulfur containing fertilizer (ammonium sulfate ) is commonly available at any garden shop (21-0-0). You can only displace sodium from a media by using a acidic compound (sulfates or nitrates) FWIW
Hydro store told me the coco needed nothing and was ready to use straight out of the bag. Thanks so very much for the info. This is the direction i needed. Thanks so much. Peace and Love!
If you haven’t noticed a lot of places will tell you anything to displace your bucks into their pockets. What was the brand of coco? I had the same problem, salt in the coco. I only use Canna coco now, it is properly washed and buffered as well. Most coco is NOT buffered, and with the HUGE amount of coco being purchased most of it is being processed as little as possible and out the door.
What’s up @atodd it’s great to see you!
