Stoner idea of the month

Hey guys, I have this idea that keeps coming into my head and I know I could put it together for a couple hundred dollars. Tell me if you think I’m crazy or would this work.

The picture is aerial and side view of what I want to do in my grow room for the next grow. It basically is like a huge tape cassette with two 8-ft rotating lazy Susan like platforms rotating under only two lights or a high-powered fixture in the middle is also possible to save more electricity. My room is 20x15x15 I think it could work. I just got to get the right motor that can go slow enough and that I can hotwire to fit in an outlet. I was thinking a treadmill motor might do. They would connect, by chain, to a large sprocket underneath the platform and the whole thing would rotate one revolution per minute.
One thing is for sure I grow some pretty good weed

Have you checked out light moving rails? There are some very nicely made kits that might cost as much as it would for you to make your own.

So you want to save electricity by cutting down on the lights but use electricity running a motor to rotate the plants under less lights?

What would this concept do for a plant? I just imagine a sunflower plan stationary, following the sun, what would these plants do differently moving for the light period?

I think the plants will receive better angles of light using minimal light. In theory

I know people who use light rails and swear by them… my opinion and mine only… I see no use nor need for more equipment…

That’s why it’s a stoner idea.

I’m a newbie grower, but Iv been a millwright/ maintenance technician for some years now. So when it comes to the lighting I can’t really help you out there but I see what your trying to accomplish.
That 8ft table is going to take some torque to turn. Especially loaded with plants. If you have 220v hook up I’d recommend going that route (saves money on electric compared to 110v)
I would recommend attaching a chain to both turn tables and using the motor with sprocket attached as a tensioner. (Keeping slop out of your chain will reduce it from slipping off)
As for that low of rpm, finding a motor to match that will be hard. You may need a gearbox attached to your motor to slow down rotation and increase torque.
A decent quality motor and gearbox combo, I recommend SEW Eurodrive. Parts are easy to find and they made so many of them that you can pick them up on eBay for cheap!

Once I harvest my plants I’ll be working on a inexpensive commercial rosin press that’s automated and can press large yields.

Keep me updated I’d love to see how this turns out for you!

Used to set up and make gears for cat., collins radio, wheel horse etc etc. I’d do the gear box the other guys talking about IF I was going to do that. I see your idea in it and always cool making things and mostly when they work lol
But to me spending the time( times money) and the Jackson’s on parts to make that thing I’d take that $ and buy a few more lights and not jack with it.
Great to see others ideas!! Happy growing!

Ps:/ Had to adds this, 240 volts VS. 120volts is always better to me,but only thing that does is a free up amperage in your breaker box for more breakers and things run cooler at 240 volt but you’re electric bills would still be the pretty much the same in the long haul…
All my lights in flower room run on 240 volts
