We were able to adopt Leopold as a rescue when he was only 8 weeks old; he’s now almost 10 months. Leo is an odd combination of breeds in that he’s 25% English Bulldog and 37.5% German Shepherd along with Labrador and American Bulldog
Although we’ve had big wonderful Boxer dogs which were easy to instantly bond with; Leo was difficult to work with and was overly forceful with his mouth (while happily wagging his tail) and I bled many times… He’s also powerful and intelligent, he’ll have nothing to do with being pushed somewhere he doesn’t want to go. It’s taken me a few months of dog training to realize that there’s a better way to bond with a dog than simply expecting him/her to be subservient or compliant with demands. My boxers were always easy and wanted to please. They were very comical and loyal, but not with the incredible intelligence or physical/mental presence that I’m experiencing with a part German Shepherd dog.
After about 8 months, his insane need to affectionately mouth/nip/bite subsided almost entirely. It’s like he figured it out as I was figuring him out. I think my wife and kids were ahead of me, but I spend the most time with him, so his relationship with me was sometimes that of power control and Alpha stuff.
I’ve completely bonded with him on a new level of equal respect; it’s been a very worthwhile journey. Not all dogs just do what you want them to do… Leo taught me to respect him, now he respects me.
Here he is from 9 weeks to almost 10 months as of this picture I just took now 8/6/18. We’re buddies and he’s an awesome dog.
Those are the cutest pet pics ever! Did you take those yourself, @UpSteve?
Yeah, last year I switched to a Samsung Note8
Now my pictures look better!
They look very professional! Nicely done!
So cute. Pets are for sale, but so many need homes!
I am hoping these toys starts getting kids warm to it for later to adopt more:
GNET, it’s been far too long since we posted in this thread. I think this thread offers a healthy escape from the rigmarole of office/grow facility life.
We have some resident puppies (they’re all puppies at heart) that hang out in our Dank Cavern (AKA the GNET offices). Here’s one little lady who I swear might be related to my pack back at home:
I have lots of them…actually I raise registered labrador retrievers and train them for duck hunting. Here is a few of my “kids”. Otter is my 95 lb Chocolate Male who had pups with my 75 lb Black Female, Pepper. I also have Pepper’s sister Copper who is a 65 lb Chocolate Female.
My recent litter had 6 pups…I kept a beautiful Yellow Male and going to call him Yeti. We still have two of his sisters, one black and one chocolate which I am selling to a good home. If you want to see more of them come to my FaceBook Kennel page Redirecting...
So great! I also have 4 Labrador Retrievers as well. One chocolate and three black labs. Two of them are brothers and the other are parents. We had TEN in our litter! It was nuts!
I have never been able to take a picture of all of my dogs while they are awake! So much energy!
Your dogs are soooooo beautiful!
Thanks brother…they are family to me. Otter has incredible lineage on his mom’s side which includes the 2012 AKC Hall of Fame Dog, “CreekRobber”.
I understand that for sure! My dogs are my family too and we modify everything we do to accommodate them and bring them on adventures with us. I have been renovating a vintage Airstream trailer to take the dogs out on the road with me when I travel. We call it the Mobile Dabbin’ Cabin. It’s a vicarious blast to watch them enjoy life and live in the moment! We humans should all take a page out of the dog’s book!
Here are my boys out at the ranch:
Here’s the Airstream we are modifying to accommodate a merry band of travelling canines:
Thats a bitchin airstream…dabbin cabin! too funny. Look forward to meeting you LV.
Thank you! The Airstream is an unsightly work in progress (it was painted a fun shade of carnival purple when I first bought it, so we have spent the better part of a year slowly stripping it inch by inch), but it’s functional right now so we use it even mid-restoration.
I’m looking forward to meeting you in Vegas too! I am debating bringing the Dabbin’ Cabin and the dog pack, but we’ll see
Here’s Rex. My faithful, OCD, fearless, tennis ball loving GSD. Greatest dog I have ever shared my life with.
8 weeks to 8 years.
You can really see their personalities!
This is Jasmine who we just lost last month after 18 years.
This pic really captures her intelligence. She always knew when a picture was being taken.Naima, she’s fiercely protective but still great with my 2yr old.
Mia and I spending some quality time on the ranch.
The only way to photograph the whole pack without blur is to wait until they are sleeping!
