To what extent will different segments of the industry (e.g., cottage/craft vs. mass) be able to coexist? will a national market make it near-impossible for small operators to survive, or do consumers value craft cannabis enough to keep it alive?
@mchatham to answer this hypothetical question, I look to the comparison of craft cannabis and micro-breweries. Even though there are several cheap options for quality beer, sometimes you want a more expensive craft beer brewed at your local micro-brewery. I believe the market will bare a more expensive craft product.
Thanks for the ask, and Canopy was an incredible experience and a fantastic opportunity. I always tell folks that, within the scope of their focus, Canopy is amazing.
If you are coming to Canopy to get help with product development (i.e. engineering, hardware, software, user experience), you’re absolutely in the wrong place and they will only be able to maybe connect you with a vendor or subcontractor.
If you have a technical team or an existing product, and need doors opened at the upper eschelons of the north american cannabis industry, then Canopy is an invaluable partner and supporter. They are very well respected, and when they make introductions doors swing wide open. Plus, if you have any interest in fundraising, Canopy does an incredible job priming us for institutional investments.
I’ve been through 2 other startup incubators in the past, and my housemates are simultaneously doing a tech-based incubator in Boulder, and it’s my firm opinion that Canopy is a worthwhile experience for those serious enough to invest themselves fully in the experience.
Again, I consider it a tremendous honor to be chosen by Canopy and if anyone wants a full download on my experience (as well as tips on how to maximize the experience) let’s grab a virtual or real-life coffee and chat.
Well, that was a real blast everyone, and thanks for all the great questions and wonderful engagement. Feel free to reach out to me at henry@CannabisBigData.co and let Nic & Nick know if you had a good time.
Looking forward to upcoming forum conversations, future AMA’s and more one-off connections online and offline with you all in the coming weeks and months!
Hey all! Wanted to jump in here real quick. I’m the California Regional Director for BDS Analytics. @henry - I know you know Liz and Roy pretty well, so it’s nice to virtually meet you as well!
As Henry said, we are essentially the Nielson/NPD/IRI of cannabis, tracking what is happening at retail, at the point of purchase. We also field consumer studies focusing on the who and why behind the buy. If anyone has any questions about what we do and how we differ from CBD, I’m happy to answer. Feel free to reach out!
can your program receive data in the form of Microsoft Access or common delineated(spelling?) file? I am not the programmer. We manufacture packaging machines that make custom reports as they package.
Yup, absolutely. We can take Access or CSVs no problem. Reach out to me at henry@CannabisBigData.co and we can chat about what type of data your machines generate and how you’d like to visualize that for your clients.
We are currently tracking strains by dollars, units, and average price, so we can absolutely provide insights on the top performing strains by volume. For example, in Colorado:
