Hey @descre8

There is so much unemployment happening worldwide right now we should start a discussion about how to empower yourself in difficult times like these.

“Another 787,000 Americans filed for unemployment benefits in the week before Christmas, the last snapshot of 2020’s appalling jobs market before the New Year.” Source

And if you think 2020 was bad, I think we in for a rough ride this year. But lets look at a positive way to make a difference and some money.

A cannabis activist once told me start with yourself, your family, your community, your town, your country… That started giving me ideas to empower ourselves and community here in my situation. Another friend also told me to write down ideas to make money, today.

Sell your unused items

So I started clearing out the house, things I did not need I listed for sale on local whatsapp groups, facebook marketplaces etc. I also lined up projects to fix broken items before selling. You get way more money for items that have been restored than items that are broken. I am talking coffee tables, chairs, sleeper couches…

Look for a job
Make sure you have an up to date resume, check job listings, apply. Also you can look at your skills and consider starting freelancing. You simply need a laptop, internet access and some skills. Check out websites like fiverr.com, guru.com, freelancer.com and a host of other sites offering freelancing skills.

Start your own business
In my town I see alot of people now offering baked goods, meals to go and frozen foods. Most of our restaurant industry has collapsed in SA, and bottomline is people need to eat, so looking for a niche in this industry could be clever.

A friends daughter who was a managing a restaurant lost her job April 2020. I was so impressed, she started sewing hemp masks and offering them to people for $4. This in turn helped her start a business and she now takes custom orders for any hemp/branded garments for businesses and anyone wanting hemp goods. Check her business here

I am sorry to hear about your situation and hope some of these ideas might help you. I also hope others have got some ideas to help others. Its difficult times, we have to stay strong, positive and look at every opportunity as a way to survive.

@descre8 I was a little blunt with my answer.
In my state theres a help wanted in every window.
I own a restaurant and have been running ads for months for help. With not a single applicant.
This may not be the situation where you live.

Yes @Hydro, i think all states, countries are different. Here in South Africa, I restaurant industry has collapsed due to bans on alcohol and opening times. Well you have a job offering which sounds good.

I’m in the UK, things here ate bad, but not too bad, I mean, there’s plenty of financial help, I myself am working since I’m a plumber, emergency calls don’t stop, but last year March, during the first lock down I started growing/propagating cactus and succulents, after £800 worth of plants, greenhouse, new lights and some other bits and bobs I’ve already managed to get my investment back.
I started selling succulents and cactus on Facebook, then I started to sell a few plants a week to the flower lady in my local farmers market, and as one thing leads to another, I’m growing from seeds 5000 chilli plants in a grow tent for starting, getting them outside beginning of march to harvest towards the summer and fall. Got in touch with some small scale chilli sauce makers and offered me chillies and the thing is going. Honestly I’m not even growing weed at the moment.

Well, I guess a lot of people can relate to this problem actually. I mean, most of the employees do not even consider hiring right now, due to this stupid virus and the lockdown. Trust me, I have felt this issue really much on my own a*s. I have been fired back in april last year, and it took me more than half a year until I could actually find a new job. The only income I was having were the winnings from 777 empire casino online as I have been gambling really much during the last year, and I reached a really great level of playing poker.

Welcome @bayerin , and yes companies are readjusting their business practises and HR compliment. I learnt last night Airbnb just got a bail out and also retrenched 100’s of staff members. But really I think this time is about empowering oneself, doing something for yourself, maybe not easy or possible for many people, but dont forget nothing is impossible.

I am in the process of writing an article about a young lady who was retrenched last year April 2020 during lockdown. She lives in a small fishing village and was a manageress at a local restaurant. Basically tourism is dead around here due to the pandemic, and nothing much happening in the forseeable furture. She went out, bought a 2nd hand sewing , was gifted 90 metres of hemp fabric and started off making hemp facemasks. Its turned into a fully fledged custom hemp fabric business. I will post a link to the article once I am done. Keep positive, look for opportunities and stay safe.

I totally understand the struggle of trying to make money when you can’t find a job and don’t have anyone to help you out. It’s tough, but there are some options out there. Have you considered freelancing or starting your own small business? You can also look into gig economy jobs like Uber or DoorDash, or take online surveys for some extra cash. And hey, while you’re at it, why not try out some bingo apps. It’s important to stay positive and keep exploring different options until something works out.

Yes, I had this problem too. And I even thought about playing online gambling. But fortunately, I came to my senses in time. However, I now use the site https://casinosanalyzer.com/casino-software/isoftbet-gaming to simply play for free in the demo version of slots from isoftbet and that’s enough for me. If you like to gamble, then first try the demo version and maybe you will get the same feeling, only without the risk.
