What am I doing wrong? Plants are slow growing and are thin

You say you’re gonna be cooking with it do you know what that entails? Are you gonna make butter and cook with that are you gonna make coconut oil and cook with that or are you gonna make concentrate from your flower and use that to mix with Whatever you’re gonna make? It also has a lot to do with what you want it to taste like there’s a ton of variables but the last thing I would do is stick green flower in the oven before it’s been dried. I’ve never heard of or seen anyone doing this. Could you point me in the direction of where you saw this?

I’ve had plants stay thin like this and the next time done them under 600w hps lights and they grew so much fatter, I would agree with it seems your lights just arnt giving out that power or maybe Evan the correct spectrums.

Hope this helps

The spectrums seem ok I think it’s more the strength 4x 17 watts plus the 9 on the grow bulb =75 watts to flower a 3x3, Im using 650 watts of Leds to hit 1000 ppfd in my 4x4 during flower.

Your plants look great for the gear your using I would definitely stick with it you can always add to setup later on with the money you save from growing your own

You’re doing a lot of things well….honestly to get what you’ve grown under those lights is impressive. Here’s the bottom line….save up and buy yourself one light….you only need one. But it needs to be a good one and produce enough full spectrum ppfd to flower your desired space. If you’re gonna grow in a 3x3 space and want to have it filled with as much plant as it will hold you’re gonna need around 300watts……but not all full spectrum LED lights that are advertised as xxx watts are truly xxx watts. There are tons of options out there and for $200-$250 you could get a light that would fill that space with big bushes.
Just make sure before you buy something off Amazon that seems like a deal you check with a resource that will guide you in the right direction.
Apply your obviously green thumb to a few plants under a sufficient light and you’ll have some impressive results.

Underwatering and overwatering may cause stunted growth. Small seedlings growing in big pots may experience overwatering problems, as roots need oxygen to develop and their roots systems are yet incapable of drinking that much water. In this case, the seedling seems droopy and weak, because they are slowly drowning.

Thanks so much for the compliment! Gardening is fun, I enjoy growing and eating super hot peppers but I am finding these plants are more difficult to grow properly, but I like the challenge. This forum has been fantastic in terms of helpful suggestions and friendly people.
I ordered a set of three LED 2500 Lumens, 6000K Daylight-White bulbs yesterday to replace the ones in the tent. I’m hoping the increased lumens will stimulate more growth from the plants. I do agree that I am growing too many plants for a 3x3x6 tent.

Regarding cooking with it, I plan on making cannabutter. I don’t recall where I read about putting it in the oven, but it was something like needing to do that to activate the chemicals in the plant if you aren’t going to smoke it. The range was “40 minutes at 225 degrees F” to “20 minutes at 225 degrees F.” The cannabutter steps seemed simple enough after the buds have been decarbonized in the oven.
Is that incorrect information? All of the cannabutter recipes I found state that first step (oven) is necessary to activate the plant as would the heat from smoking it.
If I’m way off, please let me know!

There’s quite a few growers out there that do quite well with Amazon lights. You just need to get the right ones. @CoyoteCody could you drop a link to your lights on here please. He has had great success with the lights he’s using. And as far as I know they’re pretty inexpensive. :+1:t3:

Thanks ado666. I am replacing three of the non-grow lights today with 2500 lumen, 6000K daylight bulbs. It may be too late for the increased light to make a difference with the larger plants, though.

@ArtVandalay

Yes you need to decarb your flower before you cook with. But it should be dried and cured or at least dried before you decarboxylate it.

Oh, OK. Thanks! So I need to hang it for a week or so to dry, then decarb it in the oven. Is 225 degrees F for 20 minutes the proper way to decarb in the oven?

Here are some close-ups of the tops of the more mature plants that I just shot. They are AK47 Fem non-auto except for one White Widow (marked).

I wouldn’t do it uncovered. If you have a casserole dish you can put a lid on or if you use a little bit deeper pan and cover it with foil. If you don’t want your house to stink put your flower in a mason jar put the lid on but leave the ring slightly loose so as the air expands in the jar it can get out. This will dramatically reduce the odor in your house then when you’re done decarboxylating your flower is already in it‘s Storage container if you’re not ready to use it now. And to answer your next question yes the mason jar lids are OK in the oven. If I recall correctly you’re OK up to 392°. When canning in a pressure cooker the temperature inside gets up to 250°. Just remember using mason jars you MUST Put them in a cold oven and take them out of a cold oven. They will shatter if they are subjected to a quick temperature change.

Wow, thank you so much. And I thought by now, there would be a strong aroma in my tent when I unzip it, but it really doesn’t. Where di you find those detailed procedures?

Alright, I have replaced three LED 5000k floods with three 2500 lumen, 6000k daylight bulbs. The new bulbs appear to provide considerably more light and are more fully disbursed. I harvested the largest AK47 yesterday and have hung the pieces to dry. Is approximately 14 days the length of time to dry?
