Usually purple red stems come from led lighting. Could in a way be a nutrient issue but that small id go with it is the led causing it and it should not do any harm. Maybe it is a hair bit too much light for thatblittle ine at the moment. I run led and every plant i grow has the red purple stems after so long of being under the lights.
I used spring water with a ph of 6 i added a little bit of hp to it maybe i added too much… I’ve been using spring water with a ph of up to a 6.3 usually around 6 for my other plants is naturally around 6 without ph down because it’s in the range so i wasn’t adding it the last 2 times but before it would be around 5.7 up to 6 so maybe i will start bringing it a down a bit more they seem happiest in coco around 5.7
No…purple hard stems are not good…stems should be translucent and flexible, healthy glowing looking…if they are hard and deep purple it is probably from 1…nutrient lockout P&K due to needing cal mag or too much cal mag…it is not a good thing because it is blocking uptake.
I see they are seedlings…probably whatever you used to soak the rooters caused lockout…whether it was a solution or just plain water.
What is your water pH there?
Personally, I’m less inclined to believe anyone saying it’s “because of LED lights” or it’s “genetics”. Purple stems are usually a sign of mag deficiency. If your LEDs include a lot of UV, then mebbe it could be the lights, but I dunno because they otherwise look pretty happy and I’d expect UV stress to do more than just make the stems purple. Are you using an old “blurple” light? 'Cause in that pic EVERYTHING looks purple. lol
Genetics could be a factor, but if it were me, I wouldn’t just assume that and do nothing unless I found reports online of people growing the same strain and seeing the same thing. Overwatering shouldn’t turn stems purple as far as I’m aware. One question I have: is the one that doesn’t have a purple stem the one that’s in a different substrate?
1 in rockwool with purple 1 with half purple in peet cube 1 with green kind of leggy in peet cube haven’t moved them into a final medium yet but i have 1 plant in flower that has purple stems just on the fan leaves that are left and like striped up the main stem besides that it’s my healthiest one so i just didn’t know if it meant something i should be worried about because it’s been on healthy and non healthy plants I’ve noticed it
Basicly the majority of the purple is most times stress. Sometimes its a purple pheno.
Plants turn purple as a stress response due to the accumulation of anthocyanin pigments. These pigments, typically red, blue, or purple, are secondary plant metabolites that act as a protective mechanism against various stresses like oxidative stress, high light, and ultraviolet radiation. When plants are under stress, genes responsible for anthocyanin synthesis are activated, leading to increased anthocyanin production and the characteristic purple coloration.
Such as grapes produce this and give it its flavor. Its a very interesting topic. The purple is actually a bug repellant.
5.8 to 6.5 is just fine, every chart I have seen puts all the nutes they need all in that range, if you vary it up and down a little 5.8 one time and then 6.3 the next you will give every nutrient it’s optimal absorption range.
But your stems are redish and according to what everyone’s saying theres an issue. Lol. Its a seedling you cannot diagnose it. I dont believe you can diagnose it. And then theres the debate of feeding a seedling or not? We all understand about cotleydons and there function and purpose is. But i like to to see how long i can keep the cotleydons alive. And most folks here know that i feed from seed to weed. I sprout seeds using clonex seedling and clone feed. And then i feed the babies with the same solution. Now at 3 days im already feeding with regular nutrients.
This is days ago and they are getting this nutrient line up.
1.Roots organic surge
2. Dakine 420 at 1/3 strength.
I can get the plant well into week 2 and still have big cotleydons. I should actually try and document how long they last to how big i can get the plant.
Yeah, but no. I have many times grown three to four different cultivars in the same soil, same nutrients, same everything exactly and some have purple stems and others don’t and none of them were nutrient deficient. Some just have purple stems, and show purple flowers because of genetics. A lot of people actually chase purple and near black cultivars, just because they like the way they look.
Its a lot of things but if the plants is otherwise healthy and getting the right nutrients its genetics. Its documented in nature… this is not a new or exclusive to marijuana thing…
An assesment can only be made on IBLs that are consistent and reliable. Looking at polyhybrids like you are doing, you are going to see variation. The 5 different sprouts photos I posted are from an IBL and you can see its consistent on all of them and it does it every time. At that stage they dont have established roots to take up nutrients and are powered by reserves in the cotyledons. They always do it, each grow and yes the buds are dark purple from anthocyanins. Other sprouts from IBLs I grow stay soft green at that stage. Is the red/purple stems on the sprouts from UV light? You can only test that on something consistent. Throw variation from amalgamation cannabis in and you have no base to test a hypothesis.
This is why stable lines are needed to make observations because one can understand what they are looking at. Looking at chaos will not help understanding.
I realize that most everyone here reading this only know polyhybrids/genetic soup with considerable variation and the confusion on what is seen is understandable. You have nothing to compare it to.
For those interested in real understanding and being able to understand/recognize what you are observing, you will need to aim higher in the genetics and grow something stable, reliable and predictable. If you need help with that I am here to chat with.
It can definitely be a mix of those factors, but often it is just a natural reaction to the environment like light intensity or slight temperature drops at night. If the rest of the seedling looks green and healthy, I wouldn’t worry too much about it for now.
The rest of the siblings which will be expressing their own genetic variation between each other. Variation from genetic soup also includes runts. Just saying. Genetic chaos, no stability.
Hummm. Well I think I have some IBL. Jamacian Lambs bread given to me 30 years ago by a Rastafarian in Negril Jamaica. We went up into the Blue mountains where he grew, only a very few people besides the Rasta’s get those plants and even fewer the seeds. We were buds for 20 years as I went there each year on vacation. I grew them out after 30 years of keeping them in deep freeze storage. 4 sprouted. Three males and 1 female. I just made seed with that run, now have many IBL landrace Lambs bread. So seeded never even got to try it for quality. One of these days I will grow a tent out as the flower time is so long. Might start after my next outdoor grow.
Damn id grow some of those out for you. Rare stuff there man. It would be an honor to grow those out. I have some dr grinspoon from seedking. . . . . Well see how thise grow out.
