So this is my first time dealing with photo plants. This Gelato female is 4 weeks old. When should I switch to bloom?I can’t find a direct answer

You can switch it anytime you like. It depends on how big you want it.

I figure when to flower as a function of grow space…Ceiling height minus space for light and suggested distance to top of plant, then, subtract distance from floor to base of plant, depending on strain stretch I calculate 75% -100% increase in stretch. …
7ft tent, - 2ft light, - 1 foot to base of plant, gives 4 ft to grow, flower at 2ft to allow stretch to 4 ft at harvest…
Of course if plant count is not a concern, you could fill the tray with 1ft plants and run a nice Sea of green

That’s in the plan for the next grow.
A cannabis plant from seed take from 6 to 8 weeks to reach full maturity. And you want you’re plant fully matured for better root growth and for big and tastier buds. That being said… Im sure some strains can start going into flower after a month!

The root zone should be mature enough to handle uptake requirements from a flowering plant. That is typically 2-3 weeks in hydro, 3-6 in coco. Length of vegative growth will determine overall size. Typically expect double/triple girth and height after flipping to 12/12.
Strain and genetics has a say in this. So does your lighting, environment, vessel, grow method, etc.
Horticulture is a Science and nothing is “exact”

What are you wants and goals from growing?
Do you want to harvest quickly with smaller yeilds or longer grow with larger yeild?
This is a difference of setting up perpetual grows to scheduled harvests.
My perpetual are small and harvested often.
As where my longer grows timeframes are grown around the shorter perpetual cycles.
Long girls, ill grow for 3 months then flower 7 gallon pot(qp), short perpetual, ill veg for 1 months 3 gallon pot(2 ozs).
I know some that get 1 to 2 zips per 1 gallon 1 month veg. They have alot of lighting though.

My last Maui Wowie was a 2 week veg using Current Culture DWC, Advanced Nutrients, and 300 watt Chilled Logic. I got 4 zips

Man I gotta try some dwc. For sure.
Also remember genetics plays the biggest role in your yeild. Some plants yeild greatly some do not.
And some growers are far greater growers than others. Dont give up cause others may yeild more. Just takes time and practice. Always tweaking your techniques. And you’ll grow monsters too.

Got 7 zips off a WWA and that was 110 day total grow. DWC hydro grows fast if your environmentals are dialed in.
Soil/Coco tastes better though (if smoking flower).
