You can pluck the plant out whole and look at the roots in the ball.

Also if plastic pot, poke a ton of holes.

It’s currently in a fabric pot with a little fan blowing on it for airflow. 
Yeah the first pot I used was horrible in retrospect. Too small and it only has one hole in the bottom to let water out (which is where I think overwatering became a problem)
