Are you able to access you city/municipal water test reports? They can give you an idea of what ppm of what is in you water and if it’s chlorine or chloramine. I believe it’s much harder to bubble off chloramine then chlorine
Yup most definitely. I’m sold, thanks.
I will look into that as well. Thank you.
Tree, you’re absolutely correct…chloroamine does not evaporate off water like chlorite…so you can’t remove it by letting it set in an open container overnight…however the R/O membrane will be able to seperate the chloroamines out. If you happen to choose the one that @truthhound pictured above, it also contains a de ionizing filter which will give you truly ‘pure’ water…so much so that it will NOT conduct electricity !!
The bead cartridge does need to be changed at the recommended gallonage purified…but there is ABSOLUTELY no ions remaining in the water at all… FWIW
Any recommendations on CO2, systems, hacks, etc.
Co2…Well, I went down that road, spent a lot of money. And my determination is if you don’t have an excessive heat problem you’re wasting your money. That’s just my experience. I’m almost back to where I started. The only difference is I was growing in soil and now I’m growing in Pro mix/soilless And I’ve settled in on a different nutrient. I did all the experimenting or whatever you wanna call it, that everybody always seems to want to try when they first start growing. And now I’m back to almost where I started. Kinda.
I think @nacho151 uses the bags. He says he has had good success using them. Might be a good place to start before making a huge investment in equipment.
I like the Exhale bags. Just hang them on a ratchet cord and keep them adjusted at the top of your canopy. They have an expiration date on the bag so you know when to swap them out.
I am the best fucking source of Co2 ever. I am a big fat American and that makes me the best man for the job. I run my mouth, breathe in and out…they just love that shit.
I’ve been looking into Co2 a fair bit lately, I’m planning on running a 20lb bottle in the future. Im using a trol master CO2 controller to measure ppms. @hoppiefrog had a post a few years back recommending having an exhaust fan that can empty the room atleast once every 5 minutes. I think his is mostly for venting gasses from his CO2 burner periodically but it got my thinking that it’s not a bad idea to have an exhaust if there’s ever a leak.
The biggest recommendation I can give is to get a controller/monitor and not to guesstimate how much CO2 is in the room. I have seen people trying to calculate how much gas they need and how often/ long to manually gas the room. It seems like an easy way to have a potentially deadly accident.
Take a look for stores around you that do bottle swaps or filling as well, my old neighborhood had a place a few blocks away. Where I am now it’s on the other side of the city.
Yup, I’ve been hearing a lot of people saying less is more.
Wow, that’s not too bad.
@roninalkemyst welcome to the forum. Im a tad late tonight. Been busy as always. Anyways R/O is the way to go. And invest in nice quality meters to test your ph/ec/ppms @TheMadFlascher once said high quality meters are just as important as high quality lights and that stuck with me. So i waited for a while and i finally decided on a meter and i got a blue lab combo meter. And since i grow in pro-mix and hydro i need a good meter. I tried the cheap stuff because everyone likes to save money. But what ive found is growing can cannabis you just cant be cheap. I mean we need to recreate mother nature inside. And there are no cheap options for quality flower production. And being cheap is expensive because youll have to buy the better equipment later anyways and youll be like shit i should have just got the better equipment the 1st time. Thats what makes this forum so great is we all help each other here. More like a family vibe.
Thank you. You are definitely right, I have already experienced some of that but I just call it a learning experience. But I am definitely more aware and conscious when it comes to trying to get it right the first time. Fun fun fun.
I’m kind of with @happilyretired here… Most of us homegrowers’ environments provide for enough CO2 as it is. IMHO it’s only when you’re pushing your grows well above a ppfd of 1200µmol/m2/s that additional CO2 could be beneficial, again, in most of our environments. But most of the growers here their lights don’t even get there. You’re in the 700-1000W category then. And if you’re living in the city or suburbia, there’s a high chance you won’t ever need additional CO2.
Remember, CO2 always goes hand in hand with light levels. I reckon many people don’t understand that.
Good rule of thumb is a 1:1 PPFD-CO2 ratio once you go over 1000µmol/m2/s, maybe a little less CO2 even.
F.e.: PPFD 1500µmol/m2/s, 1400 ppm CO2 etc.
Nice, awesome explanation. Thank you.
Guys, I ordered my light today. I went with the HLG 600 rspec. Now to decide on the nutes. I want to try Ventana or Athena still haven’t decided yet.
looked at that light a great value
@roninalkemyst You are off and running!
Ventana nutrients are kick butt but expensive and so is athena. I always prefer dakine420.
