So these expensive filters last about 3-4 months on full throttle. Anyone here take one apart and refill it?. Im going to take one apart and see how its put together and see if i can refill it. I mean drill a couple rivets out and open it up! I used to refill big fishtank filters. And it has to be cheaper then just throwing these big filters in the trash.
Nobody? Someone has to have a good answer
Honestly bro I use a 4" carbon filter on my ventilation fan… Like you said they last 3-4 months… By the time you spend the money for replacement parts and time to do it your probably best just to get a new one… Just being real brother!
My filter costs 35$ with amazing prime free shipping
I haven’t refilled one, but my local hydro store sells bags of the activated carbon to refill and say it’s easy enough. Like you said, drill a few rivets, replace the carbon, self tapping sheet metal screws to put it back together. The filters themselves are very simply made. No reason you can’t refill it. Hell, people used to make their own carbon filters decades back using chicken.
Well i bit the bullet and bought a 20lb bag of this!
2 day shipping sux $20.00. But i kind of need it now!
I noticed my little cheaper air filter has screws on both ends and has reversible end caps lol this little one should be a snap. The active air brand one says it expected life is 18-24 months. So im going to do the small one first and see if its the coperate making the smells.
Ill do a step by step rebuild for everyone. Damn activated carbon is exspensive. I wonder if i was to get 55lbs of extruded carbon pellets and crushed them they would work also? I can get 55 lbs on amazon for $68. So its cheaper. But i know this is high quality and will work. But An Easy test for the pellets would be to take a big ass bong rip and blow it into the filter and have someone standing outside by the vent and smell for it lol. But im not willing to gamble for a little money. I went cheaper on the filter in august and now here we are.
Here is the link to the rebuild instructions. I didnt realize i left this thread open and un-completed!
Damn old thread. if anyone cares to read it. If not ill archive it.
Useful info here, i have the active air and plan to refill it.
Are you still using the same type of activated carbon @PreyBird1 ? I’m going to need to refill mine eventually as well
I luckily don’t have to use one now, but I used too. Just gonna mention there is a big difference in filters and apparently it’s the quality of the charcoal that’s in them. I’ve literally had them not work brand new, and I had a big one that lasted for about three grows. Keep the thread open this is a do-it- yourself permanent kinda post.
Marty
Yes i still use this carbon. The link had a price for the carbon.
This place sells it. Because it looks like the other company closed down.
