Good question on the singular motor. When using one motor you are relying that you will not over heat it and cause motor damage. This will only give you one barrel speed that does not address different flower stains and tumbling conditions.
Does your Zoom machine use multiple motors?
Yes we have 2 industrial motors for the trimmers. The barrel motor is variable speed 0-180 barrel rpm and the reel motor is a set speed.
Can one operate independently of the other โ by that I mean can one motor fail without impacting production?
The motors are totally independent of each other. If one motor was to fail the other motor would still run properly. The Zoom Pro has easy plug-in connections that only take a few minutes to change if necessary for both motors reducing down time while making it easy for almost anyone to change.
Thatโs awesome! Iโm sure that makes for peace of mind for your consumers! How often do motors fail? Whatโs your typical lead time on replacement parts?
Motors fail usually because of neglect. We have many machines with the same motors that are over 6 years old still being used and a few customers may replace them in 12-18 months. If you over heat them they will fail over time. That is why itโs important to make sure the reel is kept clean to spin freely. Resin buildup is your worst enemy.
What does cleaning look like for your machines to prevent dreaded resin buildup?
Dry trimming the cleaning is at the end of the day with a light power wash of the reel blades. For wet trimming it depends on the resin buildup on the reel blades.
Sometime adding a very light water spray to the other barrel surface will help create a barrier between the resin and the reel blades that will greatly reduce the need to clean. Some customers will also very lightly spray the bin of material before it goes into the hopper. 99 percent of the moisture will get removed with the vacuum force and trim so it will not cause any problems. Itโs like taking your flowers down on a rainy day.
Thatโs it? Just a power wash? No solvents? No special quantanium cleaner?
For the most part power washing is the best way to clean the reel blades but you can use alcohol, Simple Green and a few other cleaners and a brush if you like.
That sounds super simple!
We are winding down on time today. Thanks so much for taking the time to be here with us today! This was a very thorough conversation rife with insight. Is there anything else you might like to add to this AMA?
It was a pleasure being here today with everybody and feel free to contact us anytime for further questions you may have or think of later.
Tumblers in my opinion make the buds dry out way to fast causing them to be harsh. Hand trimmers that are automatic can be cool. But in all honesty, yes time is money, but cannabis deserves value and value is created from quality. If we sway away from any of those we are just another money hungry vulture of the cannabis biz! Quality is key.
