The problem with outside here is our weather is so damn sketchy. It’s 42 degrees right now and usually 70 by now.
@preybird1i have that book in my aresenal but have noticed it to be a bit more technical then my knowledge level. More confusing then helpful at this point.
Just got word, my seeds will be here Monday. (Biting fingernails)
Wait on outdoor then for sure 70 plus… I’ve noticed that too here… The planet is changing… Seasons are changing we had absolutely no spring… Straight from cold rainy to literally 100 degrees last weekend… Its been steady at 80 last week
@scotty17 where are you located?
Southern California…inland beach city… 35 miles from coast
Ahh nice. My son lives in Oceanside. Miss my boy. Haven’t seen him since lockdown. We usually fly out there or he flys home once a month but I told him not to travel for the time being.
You should have great outside growing weather out there no?
Well thats no good. But thats why your here right, so you can learn as we did and continue to.
I know Oceanside very well… It’s about 2 hour straight south of me… Great beaches… Does your son know about the Ruby’s on the pier?.. Outdoor kills it here for sure
Why do you get bigger harvests from growing outside?
You would think bigger inside due to better control of lighting, nutes, and watering schedule.
Because the sun is way more powerful than any artificial light we can provide, probably a lot more reasons too. Maybe better C02 levels, symbiose with the fauna and flora.
That’s what I think, but I’m also curious of what the real serious growers think!
How about it @Ladithief, @hoppiefrog, @devjyarn, @justgrowin, @Packee, @chrisj, @missiles, @oldguy, and all of you out there, do you have an answer for that?
I started tagging some great growers, but there are so many in this forum, I quickly realize I would miss a lot of you… so sorry if that happened but know that I like you all!
I’m not positive myself but I can’t wait for the day I can grow one outside. I just don’t have the room for it now. I love seeing how big and robust they get. The sun definitely is their friend
Well how many people grow in 35 or 50 gallon pots at the smallest indoor or have unlimited root depth if put in ground…and how many want their indoor to grow 8-9 months total?..and controlling nutes I can do the exact same outdoor… but as a living soil guy I don’t have to worry about tea strengths or ph’ing (once I knew my water)… but when I wasn’t I could get the exact ppm also… and there is more room height and width… I have far more air flow then indoor growers… you can’t nor want 30 mph winds in your tent… I can trellis and SCROG also outdoor (I made and did a 4’ SCROG and lost 1/2 to mold (was a very damp and prone season for it) and still got 2.5lbs)… so to me this is my answer to your question…
The suns light intensity doesn’t drop by half every foot from the source like artificial light sources. The light at the bottom is the same as the top, as well the quality of the light is unparalleled. Tho with the ability to control the environment indoors this is where you get the best quality flowers. In a competitive market most outdoor product gets extracted due to the quality difference.
Its a good debate and something I been pondering since receiving a close friends outdoor, shade netted soil harvest. His buds are close to appearance as local hydroponically grown indoors.
I think the reason is of course the sun, about 1 trillion millon billion lumens. I also think its mother natures magic. If you watch how plants grow straight after a good rain, it must be magic, cause even when i use the same rain water they just dont seem to bounce up as much.
Also roots, outdoors usually have bigger root systems, doubling the size of the plant in length. So like a body builder, more roots ( muscles ) more nutritional intake bigger buds.
The reason indoors are smaller harvests is probably light penetration of the lights, but would be interesting to compare the rough yield say per foot with indoor vs outdoor, rate indoor would beat outdoor for that.
So yeah, sun and magic in the air. You just cant beat it.
Ah the thing I was pondering after waffling on about my friends harvest is bud size and visual appeal. I coming back next season with some new tricks.
The thing about raining outside is lightning! Lightning recharges the soil. If a person could replicate that into their soil inside with the rainwater. It can be done but I’m not mechanical. Ill leave that up to ya all. Lol
I am gonna do one Grape Ape outside and one inside and then I’ll compare at the end.
Listen to me sounding all expertly lol. Actually, I’m just hoping they pop and make it through seedling out or in hahaha.
Can I use yellow netting for my Scrog as opposed to white or black.
Forgive my ‘’noobiness’’ but do you mean scrog?
If so, I’m sure the net’s colors doesn’t matter…
Yeah my typing isn’t the greatest when I’m smoking lol. Scrog is what I mean.
