I had my favorite strain mold after only a few months in the jar. I know I could have been better about opening the jars regularly. My typical curing process is:
Week 1: remove buds from jar everyday for 30 minutes
Week 2: remove buds from jar every other day for 30 minutes
Week 3: open jar every third day for 30 minutes
Weeks 4-6: open jar once a week for 30 minutes
Weeks 6+: open jar every month for 30 minutes
I do keep hydrometers in each jar and typically go for 55-60% humidity.
What techniques do you guys use?(I know a cannatrol is the best just can’t afford one)

Cannatrol machine or the vcure machine from vivosun if you can afford it. Fantastic machines
I wet trim the entire plant. I let it hang dry for 24hrs or one night. Then into the cannatrol for an easy dry and cure. And sometimes i leave the buds in the machine for a month or more.
Then into 1 gallon jars with moisture packs to keep them at 62% Rh
I used to hang dry at 25%rh for 2 days and then i would put them into boxes to control the moisture and open then every day and check the moisture levels. All the boxes had parchment paper and i would rotate the buds so the werent flat on one side. And after a week they got jarred up.

I could be wrong but am pretty sure the moisture content of the buds was too high when they went into the jars? I use a dehum, hum and fans in an enclosure keeping as close to 60-60 as possible for 10-14 days depending on the bud structure of the plants I also leave the majority of the leave on them to add more of a buffer to the buds whiles they dry out.

I leave the buds on the stems while they completly dry and cure. Then i snip them off the stems and jar them. Because it gives them that last bit of moisture and flavor.

different strokes for different folks.

You need a fire button for that one. I use a big window screen. I use a big dehumidifier. Several fans. Put it in a tight room. I try to remove everything from the stem as much as possible. But I do have hangers. Run it continuously. I know it’s not the ideal way. But I can’t smell up the entire neighborhood and I don’t have the money for one of those machines. I should use a tent. I’ve gotten mold too many times. I do miss the color sometimes. I do not make hash. And to be honest with you the lower stuff I just cut up and throw away. Throw it in my yard and run my lawnmower over it. I love the topics around here. I know they’re a little old, but there’s nothing wrong with posting something. I have read some interesting stuff. Then from there, I go to a big container within about four days I can jar up. I’m basic.

I have 4 big window screen i mad for drying lots of buds. When i get rolling and im at 100% capcity i can have over 100 plants. And trying to harvest 7-10 plants takes some planning. I bought a Vcure machine also to test one out. And its amazing also! It helps me hatvest more at once. Because you need a minimum of 6-7days of machine drying time before you can jar up and use the machine again. That was causing major headaches when i need to harvest 4-7 Plantsvat once.

Before the Cannatrol, I dried in a room with a humidifier and a portable ac unit. I dried for 12-17 days, then trimmed and jarred. The goal was 60/62 temp/humidity. I switched to Grove Bags for curing when I was using the drying area/room.
Now, I use the Cannatrol. I only keep top 10% of bud (put in Cannatrol) and partially dry, then freeze the rest. I user Grove Bags on a roll (for vacuum sealers) for that purpose.
The top 10% gets full dry/cure in the Cannatrol and then put into regular Grove bags and into wine coolers at 59 degrees

It gets too smelly. For me years ago, I took my time with it. Now since I have a family, I have a small child. I try to keep everything hidden from him. He’s not interested in it. He doesn’t pay attention to it, but I don’t like him around when I start to dry. Normally what happens he’ll go visit his grandpa when I’ll chop. I like the machine, but I thought about getting one.
