Inkfromblood's grow #4

Last year I skipped growing because of a trip to Japan where I’d be gone too long to have things taken care of as well as I wanted.
So I’m back at it, an getting an early start.

But since the last grow, I’ve been blessed with a great deal of positive things happening in my life - so approaching this grow full of positive energy.
Wife got a new career going strong. We got a new cat named Smeagol.
I’ve joined a great new band, and have been drawing a ton more.

Today:
Started cleaning out the basement grow area, and gave the tents nice vacuum and bleach cleaning.

This season going with Runtz courtesy of the ever-wonderful @PreyBird1

Goals this year are to get set up for a perpetual grow and clone.
Invested in a new mini-tent with a nice dedicated seedling tray with lights.
So hopefully that dedicated space will be great to keep things rotating.

I think I’m going to abandon the use of the airpots. Last time, I’m pretty certain I was dealing with too much drying out. So back to fabric for me.

Will be sticking with coco coir because thats what I know, and it seems pretty easy now.

More to think about as I prep! More cleaning and organizing to be done, and planning to be popping seeds in a month or so.

Nice! A mini-tent and fabric pots will help keep things under control, especially with cloning.

I know I am anal…but it works. I put mine in a paper towel all folded up with the seeds inside one of the folds. Then I push it down to the bottom of the glass of water, I use like a quart mason jar, I want them deep.

I put H2O2 in with the water.

After 6-8 hours I pull them up and drop them in the jar out of the towel. If they sink, they come out and go in the wettish Dampish paper towels in a flat covered dish. If they don’t sink they get dunked again, until all have absorbed enough water to sink, I never let them get a tail while under water… I also use the H2O2 in the water for the flat dish.

Then cover, set on a heat mat and when they get even the slightest tail, into the dirt they go. I never let them get a half inch tail before the dirt unless it happens overnight.

Very cool method, I’ve seen a similar one with the paper towel. I’ve had great success with just letting the seeds sit in ro water I tap them down with my finger as tiny air bubbles can keep them floating the surface tension of water is crazy on a low mass object! I’ve read a lot about adding H2O2 and how it help germination ALOT epically with older seeds, never used it but I have some old genetics I might test it on.

I always use clonex seedling and clone feed. I make it up at 20ml to a gallon of R/o water. I take a paper towel soak it then squeeze it untill no drips come out then put the seeds in and fold it in half and stick in a plastic baggie. Now everyone says you need to put them in the dark. I have tested this a lot and it makes no difference if the seeds are in the dark or not!. I’ve tested sprouting in the dark, sprouting in partial light, sprouting in full light. They all sprout at the same time and speed and generally i prefer the seeds in open light or under the plants in the clone tent. Or just naturally put them in a small shot glass size solo cup and just stick the seed into them once they pop and then i soak the soil so it sets around the tap root and leave them in a little dome to keep the seedling from drying to quickly.

Yep found the same exact thing out, my germination covered dish has a clear glass lid, I set it on the counter in the kitchen and they sprout just fine. It is about 8"x5" pyrex baking dish.

I just put them in a draw in my kitchen witch is always 70-72 I’ve had a very high success rate even with older genetics, a few popped but when transplanted never grew :frowning:

Likely ready for transfer to rock wool tomorrow.

That’s the way I do it too. Except I just sit it on top of the cable box where it’s warm. I have noticed them popping faster when they are kept warm.
