I haven’t found one temp controller that’s consistent with the second one I haven’t found one humidity meter that works the same as another. I used three different thermometers to measure my plates temperature on my press and they’re all different. Mine tends to run on the hot side. If I go over 200 pressing flour it comes out a lot darker and a lot more shatter like. What has been working for me lately is a very long warm-up press before the squish. I give it at least two minutes to warm up and then when I squish it’s usually 3 1/2 to 4 minutes.
What kind of yields is everyone getting? If I add both squishes I usually get to 20%.
@boozer the 220 temp pressing is what ive been doing when I dona second pressing with my rosin chips. I stack them on top of each other, still in their original pressing screens or bags, i do fold them in half if I can and stick them back in parchment paper on the press. I bring the press down lightly until it set s on the material and give it a few seconds. When I hear a sizzle start or a pop the. Sizzle is when the rosin will start to ooze out, what I do is when I hear the sizzle start to slow the. i will press a little until the sizzle sound picks up again. I will donthat until I get it full pressed then I just finish strong. Ive gone to 13 tons on the press and have not had a blow out yet. I also realize I have a top level plate set up. My controller and plates match my temp gun measurement perfect. Also, let yournolates warm to proper temp before you put tour parchment paper and stuff in it, and also, tirn your press bags inside out so the seem is outside not inside the bag. Hope this helps some. Im mot a pro, but Ive squished a shit ton. Lol
I will get a darkwr color on temps over 200 too, but usualy low temps and nice blond yellow when lressing kief and bubble.
I start checking my yield when pressing. It’s too depressing. I never get The yields that everybody else says they do. So I just grow an abundance of weed and squish the shit out of it to make what I want. It’s kind of weird I always fold my bags in half and do a second press at the same temperature immediately after the first press while it’s still hot. Depending on the strain sometimes I get more sometimes I get less on the second Press. There is so many variables pressure temperature quality of flower.
I saw a video one time and they were actually talking about using a little piece of PCV pipe to turn the bags with the seam in. I’ve never heard about turning the other way. I guess I’ll give it a shot.
How long is your 2nd press? Or if you don’t have one specific time, what signs are you looking for when you try to see when you got the maximum out of the puck?
Second press with the bag folded over another 3 1/2 minutes. I don’t do a warm-up on the second press because it’s still pretty hot.
Thanks for the tag @bullfrog420 as well as your valuable information. I just converted to a vape several weeks ago. I still smoke joints, but giving up cigarettes and its made the journey much easier. Very nice lab man.
@greenmagic3 I dont go by any time frame when I press. I go by sound and feel. I bring the press down until my plates are touching the surface of the material pretty even. Then I wait a few until I hear a small popping sound and sizzle. You can hear it. When I get the sizzle is when I consider my pressing to start. When i hear the sizzle start to slow down, i slightly press more until the sizzle picks back up. When i get to a point the sizzle wont go back up is when I finish my pressing out strong. Just be careful to not blownout your pressing bag. You could also press small amounts with out using a pressing bag or filter. That pressing you just want to try and squreze a little quicker to try to keep material from getting into the oil your pressing out. I truly hope this helps you. I am not saying I am a stud at this, but I do say that finding reliable sources for info can be draining, so this is just some of my techbiques and such Ive been doing and i like my quality. Lol i just realized I mite of double pisted how I press. My bad. Well, this thread motivated me. I have severe insomnia and its 6am and I am still wife awake…so……Im gonna go press some rosin. Hahahaha
@greenmagic3 The question on the different press sizes and results. I have larger plates which gives me more of a surface to utilize. I have friends with smaller set ups that yield awesome blonde rosin, but I couldnt tell you if there is a return quantity difference. I still think thats hard to determine when a persons pressing techniques can alter the amount. I will say I can do more things with plates my size. I have mroe area and a wider opening so i can play and do the bottleneck tech or prepress it flatter then heat Press. I also dont have any spills or oil leaking over my area. I have plenty or work area
Did you press that?
I did. Nov 22 in the fridge since. I’ve tried 3 so far. Candy store is really good
I love candy store. And I have an abundance. That and M&Ms are my favorites currently. And get a decent yield from each.
Very good yeilder. I pressed at 170 and it needed a little more for me. It let loosed at 175 and came out really clear light amber. It cured opaque? I didn’t even know about curing it till a month ago. . So smooth I don’t even cough.
What, what… curing it?
I don’t want to be the one to say how to doit or what it does, but it definitely gets smoother. I read its 30 days give or take in the fridge. It changed states into a not sticky stuff. Haha just to be technical. I actually stuffed a cone and took my wax tool heated up to dip into rosin. It melts onto the tool and I painted the cone. All the way up and down. That thing smoked forever and gave a nice extra terp taste with a KICK.
