Oaksterdam University...is it worth it?

I was looking at the horticulture program they offer. Has anyone benefited as far as helping get into the industry with this? Or should I go a different route?
@macgyver_stoner you may know who could help if you cant.

honestly i think it’s worth it. Any hands on learning about cannabis culture is always a plus. Especially from Oaksterdam, I’ve always wanted to attend but me living on the east coast, makes it difficult. If you have the opportunity take it learn as much as you can.

Well, I live in Oklahoma so it would be online courses for me. I more the less want to know if it helps getting your foot in the door somewhere or if it’s just better to go on without it. Its 1200.00 to take it so its actually pretty cheap. That’s what makes me wonder if it’s something an employer or business would find “attractive” so to speak

They don’t have a choice honestly. In my own opinion. I told myself the same thing. I believe going to a cannabis college should be noticed. The cannabis industry is operated by money hungry people (Not everybody) who don’t even care about cannabis or helping. They just see a gold rush. Me personally cannabis isn’t offered in college as a course cannabis started off as a hobby. many people taught themselves or learned from experts(black Market). They take jobs away from us because we are passionate about our art. instead they hire college kids with clean records who don’t know anything about cannabis/Extracts because they where taught to learn other plant species. So learning in a actual place like oaksterdam makes you valuable

I think it is worth it. A friend did an Oaksterdam course which helped him open some doors in cannabis and moved from there. Certfication and updating skills in this developing industry can help people stay ahead of the game. The environment and people will help you into career paths in cannabis.

They have started speaking about a specialised cannabis college in South Africa. Its a brilliant that will hopefully happen in the near future.

Personally i do as many courses online as I can. I am currently doing an ecourse on Blog Strategy.

It’s all about that piece of paper in my opinion. That paper says a lot to employers when they are scanning through 1000 resumes. They’ll have a couple requirements before they start and if you don’t have atleast one of them they’ll just toss you into the bin.

Example: joe with a clean record has been flipping burgers all his life and mentions hobbyist growing for the past couple years. Meanwhile peter with 2 felonies went and completed an educational course with a certificate an has been a hobbyist grower for the past 5 years. Who would you want to hire?

Although oaksterdam University is geared toward cannabis and would be a great certificate of completion to have… I would enquire about an actual horticulture/botany degree as well not just a certification @imSICKkid

I hire people thru a Cannabis employment company. Many people I have met thru them start as trimmers and then seek out opportunities in the areas the are looking for. They also say they get to see many different operations giving them insight into the successful operations and what to avoid from the bad ones. I think you would gain more from working for a successful farm than from a college professor who couldn’t do it so they have to teach it.

Yup almost everything I know was learned in two summers of working with a talented horticulturalist on his farm/greenhouses. It sure showed me the basics In a rush;)
