Seed starting kit? Or go a different route?

Is this kit a good idea to start my seeds in? I have autoflower seeds im looking to start. Would this be a good idea before I plant into there 3 gallon pots?

@dillydilly. I started with those too. But Those jiffy pucks are notorious for staying too wet.
I just do paper towel till I get a 1/4 - 1/2 in tail then straight to pro mix Sunshine in a cup.
Had much better success starting seed this way.

There’s other seed starting soils available so lots to choose from.

As for starting in the final pot. Much less chance of overwatering in a smaller cup. And just transplant when the leaves expand outside the cup.
You can do a clear cup inside a coloured one to keep light from the roots. And you can still monitor their progress.

If you’re starting out brand new, this is not a bad way to start. There’s 100 different ways to start your seeds they all work. Takes some time to figure out what’s gonna work best for you. You might start with these and love it and never look back. If you go this route just give them a little squeeze to make sure they’re not too wet.
You might even have everything you need right at your house right now to start your seeds. Asking questions is a good place to start. :+1:t3:

Thanks for the input everybody, I bought some seeds from ILGM and they told me to soak the seeds in a cup of water, just drop them in and wait. They all ended up cracking then I put them in a solo cup 1/2” hole 1/2” deep and never had any movement. Sprayed water on them twice a day. They told me it was the soil I used (maricle grow 100% organic blend)

So I’m looking for a safer fool proof way to get these up and growing.

The miracle grow soil was too hot it burned the brand new tap roots. The disks shown above are either Pete or Coco and they have no nutrients So they won’t burn your roots when you start.
We could better help you if you go into a little bit more detail of your set up. Or what you’re hoping to achieve in the long run. There’s a lot of stuff out there that advertises big things and don’t produce.
If you choose to use cups and soil to start that is a very good way to do it also. If you choose the direction you would like to go I would be more than happy to share detailed experience that have had. I think I’ve tried most of them.

My strain is white widow auto that I will be growing.
I just ordered the seed starter kit pictured above.
My plan is to get them a couple inches tall in that starter kit under a cfl tube light.
I’ll then transplant into 3 gallon pots with fox farms ocean forest.
I’m only going to be growing 4 in my 2’x4’ tent.
Powered by a mars hydro 1000w led light
This is my first grow. I’m trying to do my own research but as I see everybody has there own ways of growing.

The most expensove part of the grow is the motor for the plant. The lighting. After that its a pick and choose options. Jacks 321 is a simple nute for cannabis from start to finish add additives if u would like but not needed.

Well it sounds to me like you got a pretty good start.

I also forgot to mention I have fox farm nutritions. I know my soil will have some in it but when do I justify adding those in?

I was skeptical in the first place just dropping the seeds in the water like that to but that was the only way they said they would guarantee germination. You’ve came to the right place when looking for advise. I do a lot of research from this forum. Best of luck to you

What soil would you recommend if miracle grow is too hot?

@daurwid…
Man that’s a tough one with a lot of opinions. I don’t grow in soil too much anymore but when I get ready for my outdoor l use spent potting soil from previous grows. Doesn’t have much nutrients but it has enough to get them going. If you don’t have any just buy very inexpensive potting soil. Or you can use potting soil for succulents for starting. I usually pop all my seeds in Rockwool. I personally get a very high success rate using it and you can transplant your seedling into any medium you want with it. If I’m going to plant in something like ocean forest I start an inch and a half or 2 inch starter cubes. Then go straight into the soil once a decent amount of roots have started emerging from the cube.

I read too deep. You were talking about starting the seed in the soil and the soil is too hot for that. But if it’s a seedling with decent development you can use miracle grow soil. I got it now. Thanks for the info. My outdoor grow is going to be clones this year. I plan to start them indoor and migrate to outdoor as a much more fully developed plant. I was planning on using miracle grow because it’s cheap at the lowes in bulk for me.

Miracle grow has a timed release nitrogen. It will release it thru all stages.

Thats why its said not to use it for cannabis. So if you just maintain nitrogen lowered in flower you might be just fine with the mg.

Day 5.
4 out of 5 look decent. Not sure what that ones problem is.

One is touching the greenhouse cover so I think ima remove it.
All I did was drop the seeds in after I watered the pellets and let it sit over the heat vent in the floor. Should I wait for first true leaves to transplant?

I would probably give them a little more time before transplanting but I’m a new grower as well so take what I say with a grain of salt. Maybe wait till some of the roots are coming out the bottom?

I’m thinking when first leaves show it should be close to that
