Should I cut the roots from the black algae

So as you can see from the pictures my main roots have been have major black algae on them or was green algae but it turned black so the question is could I cut off at the bottom of the pot and will the roots regenerate and keep growing or just let it go right now the top of the crop looks fine

You can try and wash it off.
You can also mix some hydrogen peroxide with water and spray the roots and wash them off.
Are you getting light in there?
Are you using hydroguard?

Like @Hydro said, I would rinse them off first. I had a plant in DWC that had an algae sludge start to build up on it from light getting into the tank, so I took it out and sprayed the roots off with my garden hose and it came off without any damage to the roots.

This plant is not in my DWC, It’s in my flood and drain system. What kind of percentage between hydrogen peroxide side and water should I use to spray off the roots and i’ve never heard of HydroGuard, what does that do. Also, I’m at five weeks on these auto seeds.

@grillman65 Hydroguard keeps your roots clean but you have to keep the light out

I’m not sure the percentage of peroxide.
I’ve never done it.
Let’s ask @defnsmokn

To be completely honest, im not sure how to advise forward from here. Maybe @happilyretired could be of more assistance? How much, percentage wise of the roots are covered? A peroxide wash would surely clean it off a bit, any ideas Happy?

I need more details. This is a flood table are you top watering or are you flooding. It does not look like your flooding. If you are flooding Hydro guard will help your plants feed better but won’t help you with the algae problem… you need a enzyme which will prevent slime and help fight algae but you’re gonna get it as long as light gets to your tray. If you are not flooding raise the opposite end from the drain of your table a half inch or so so no water stands. Gently wash all off that you can then you also need to cover it to prevent light getting to any place that stays moist. I’ll tag you over to my journal so you can see the way I am trying to achieve this.:v:t3:

You need some O2 in the water. How any air rocks do you run? A lack of O2 is bad for your plants and good for algae production. Pump lots of air in after you rinse the roots clean.

You should be able to rinse that algae off with a little bit of agitation and h20 @grillman65 . I’m going to suggest you start running Voodoo Juice in your resevoir. It’s far superior to HydroGuard because it has multiple strains of beneficial bacteria in it. You need to find someway to block the light from reaching you h20. That’s the only reason algea can grow. I flush my rootzone with Sensizym, which is 5 or 6 beneficial enzymes that will eat any harmful growth. It’s the safest, least invasive way to clean your roots.

Make a stronger dose of ro water and hydrogen peroxide like 3 cups to 5 gals of ro water mix good let roots sit in it for 15 mins rinse off super good soak again for a while. Most of the funk will fall off. Make sure u rinse roots of real well also before putting back in nute water as the h202 water will kill iff any beneficial bacteria in the water. I would say if u dont have it get hydro guard also and use that it will prevent algae in the tank. Make sure to keep all light from getting to roit zone or in buckets at all

Man what’s your resivor temps?

What’s wrong with being nice? It for sure makes communication easier and more productive…

I have never ser algae on roots before. It’s going to be hard to get rid of that. Bummer man!

Some people have anger issues and don’t know how to deal with it. It often causes relationship breaks and terrible home life. Gotta pray for people to grow and mature.
