Suggested RO system?

Hello, I’m looking for an RO system specifically for my plants. Nothing too high volume but I would like to be able to pull 20 gallons a day if needed.

Besides Apec 5 and 6 stage under the sink models, I saw other types that don’t have a faucet. I really don’t need a faucet, I’d be happy with opening up the cabinet and pulling a hose out to fill a 5 gallon bucket. Are there effective tankless options or would the $200 Apec systems be my best choice. I assume I don’t need to use a faucet if it comes with one, if I were to put a valve on the outlet.

@sssportsmfg has a popular unit used by multiple growers here…It is actually a Reverse Osmosis plus DI (deionized) filter cartridge that is EXCELLENT for what you’re looking for…

He’s kinda cranky but a good ole fart so maybe we can get him to link you up !!! :joy: :star_struck:

You can get a RODI unit off Amazon for around $60 and I would suggest the Buddy Booster pump to cutout a lot of water waste. I have a setup that does 50 gallons a day but I can get about 5 gallons an hour with the buddy booster and it will cut the waste water from 4 to 1 to 1 to 1. Here is a picture of my RO setup if you’re interested. It seems Amazon has raised the price of the RODI to $70 and the Buddy Booster to $135 since I purchased my setup.

Would something like this get my ppm down near zero? Waterdrop 10UA Under Sink Water Filter System, NSF/ANSI 42 Certified, Under Counter Water Filter Direct Connect to Kitchen Faucet, 8K Gallons High Chlorine Reduction Capacity, USA Tech https://www.amazon.com/dp/B083NPW1DN/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_E1WG9K0D98E01N3SWM2D?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I guess I’m looking for a simple system, don’t have the space for all these parts.

I mounted mine for ease of use, however my cousin has his setup under his sink.

I’m not sure that will reduce your ppm’s but it should remove the chlorine out of tap water.

Is there no system that I can outlet to a hose and Valve without using a tank. Water on demand essentialy, I realize it would be higher ppm this way.

@nacho151 is correct…that is just a carbon filter to remove chlorine…

The system nacho has shown is a little more sophisticated but simplified without the ‘buddy booster’

Every R/o system has the same basic filtration setup…sediment filter, activated carbon filter (chlorine removal), R/O membrane…this unit adds the deionization cartrige which will definitely drop your water to 0…

My storage tank is a 7 gallon bucket with a float valve. I used a Blue Boogie filter until I saw @sssportsmfg using his RODI. Those type filters just don’t do a good job for reducing ppm’s but the RODI will bring your ppm down to 0 or 1.

The basic R/O DI unit is very simple…water in and purified water out. There is one more line for waste water that you run to a sink or other drain…You can put your purified water discharge tube into a 30 gal barrel or a kitchen pot…just gotta be around to shut it off !!! FWIW

Do you have a link or model number for the rodi unit you’re referring to?

Here you go.

The booster is not mandatory right? I assume my water pressure is around 40 or whatever the town sets.

No, but it will save on your water bill in the long haul. It reuses the waste water to boost the pressure to 90 psi before it sends it down the drain. That’s why I use it. Just the RODI Unit without the booster pump your waste is going to be 4 gallons waste for 1 gallon good water. Add the pump it uses 1 gallon waste to 1 gallon good. If your storage has a float valve the booster pump will shut down the whole system until you drain some water to use, as soon as the float valve moves down it will start filtering water again unless you turn it off!

I have one on the side of my house on top of a 35 gallon barrel I have another 35 gallon barrel that the clean line goes into it takes two days to fill 35 gallon barrel. I have it hooked to a Fossett on the side of my house. It works fine. I use at least 15 gallons every five days. My waste water just runs into the yard. I am on a well.

I’m leaning towards the 100gal system. Not sure on the booster, might be loud?

I only hear it if I’m standing next to it when it 1st starts. The 100 gal system doesn’t come with the DI cartridge so I would suggest it as an add on item if you can. The carbon filter cartridge and the DI cartridge can be refilled if you want to save money on cartridge change outs.
