Your carbon filter will take care of that…
Sorry the Amazon description had me a bit confused : The RO Buddie carbon cartridge removes chlorine from tap water. However, it does not remove chloramines.
If you’re using an RO/DI system you should be good. The water quality is almost like distilled water.
Tree, you are correct in that the activated charcoal filter will not remove chloroamine…however chloroamine is a larger conjugated molecule (a chlorine attached to NH2) and would be adequately removed by your R/O membrane…any remnants after the membrane would certainly be removed by the DI exchange beads…FWIW.
Concerning the R/O unit, Activated charcoal filter will take care of chlorine and some organic solvents that may exist in the water…Hypochlorites (bleach) are more aggresive than chloramines and WILL actively attack the R/O membrane…so removing chlorine is much more important from a functionality standpoint…
Chlorine is the reason I use the Blue Boogie Filter as a pre-filter for my RODI setup.
That will definitely extend the efficiency of you system carbon filter…my advice if you have noticable chlorine odor in your water is to regularly check your purified water pH and TDS or ppm or EC. If you see deviations from your standard I would replace the DI cartridge and system carbon filter at the same time…FWIW
This is what I’m using.
Well I don’t understand that pump versus spigot part. I have the spigot on my 30 gallon barrel that collects the RO water. The Ecopump increases the pressure going to the RO filter system to increase effeciency from what I just read. ( I don’t have one) I have a float valve that shuts the water off to the barrel from the RO filter system. The sillcock is just a valve with a hose connection thread. Everything in the picture other than the mounting (wood) bracket I built and the hose bib (blue handle) comes with this DI included filter system.
The white tube on the left side going out of the picture on the bottom is the drain to waste tube, the one on the right goes to my 30gal polypropelene barrel that collect the RO water.
I mean to get the water from the reservoir to something like a 5 gallon bucket for mixing, I’ll use a small pump. That way I don’t have to raise a big tank up off the ground.
Marty, the pump is designed to increase the system pressure and IMPROVE your permeate (clean water) yield…
Here is our commercial unit and I will do my best to describe the components…
- This unit uses a total water input of 7 Gals/minute. 2 Gal are permeate @ about 2-2.5 ppm. 2 Gal are waste water. 3 Gal are RECIRCULATED. We are using well water that was analyzed and results were sent to pure aqua so they could design this system for our particular needs…
- First Step . Water first goes through the blue anthracite/sand media filtration unit. This unit is periodically back flushed just like a water softner.
- Second step in injection of a descaler (15 gal clear poly tank) Our well water is pretty good quality but does contain some calcium bicarbonate.
- Third step the water goes through a 5 micron filter cartridge (you can see the bottom of the blue housing just under the pressure gauges)
- The water pressure is now boosted to 125 psi by a (not visible) pressure pump and sent through the 2 membranes (you can see them as the white vertical tubes). Commercial units like ours allow you to remove the membranes if needed for remediate servicing if rerquired off location.
- Not shown is our 2500 gal black R/O water storage tank…
That’s what I just said Bob. Put your glasses on ol’ fart !! lol.
Marty
So my RODI is now hooked up, fills up a 5 gallon bucket with 4 gallons in like an hour and a half.
I then installed a simple $12 float valve and had it set around the 4 gallon mark. Is it normal for the system to keep draining waste water even though its not collecting clean water in the bucket?
You should hook your water going to your RO System to your float valve. Shut the water off going to it not coming from it.
I’m trying to wrap my head around how that works, this is the item: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076HDV3Z2?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2_dt_b_product_details
To stop the waste water without the booster pump you need to manually turn it off at your water connection next to the water drain in your picture.
Besides the booster, is there another device that would cut the water off at the source when the res is full?
So I got a mickey mouse version and I need another part…
This should work?
